George Boughey Stable Tour

Craven House Stables is shaping up for another profitable season, with leading 2000 Guineas hope Bow Echo heading a talented team of young horses.

George Boughey has proved himself a most adept addition to the training ranks, notching up at least a century of winners in each of the past four years and breaching the £1 million prize-money barrier on every occasion.

Numerically, Boughey’s best tally came in just his third full season with a licence in 2022 when notching 136 winners and just short of £2 million, plus a first Classic success to boot after Cachet won the Qipco 1000 Guineas.

It was a similar story in 2023 when he only just failed to cross the £2 million barrier again, while even last season’s total of £1,286,990 would have looked even rosier had Believing’s Group 1 earnings of £696,000 for her victory in the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan been included.

Boughey has shown the great trait of knowing exactly which of his geese are swans and vice versa, and having already crossed the line for a first Guineas success with Cachet, he is keeping everything crossed that he has one of main contenders for a 2000 Guineas success in the shape of Bow Echo.

Owned by the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, the son of the 2014 Guineas winner Night Of Thunder ended his first season unbeaten in three starts, which culminated in a victory over the Classic course and distance in the Royal Lodge in September, and the days can’t tick down fast enough for the team at Craven House Stables for 2000 Guineas Day.

Boughey said: “Bow Echo’s work has been very good through the spring, and we have had a very good preparation with him. He is in great form, and we just have to put the finishing touches to his preparation for the 2000 Guineas.

“He’s set to gallop at Newmarket this week, and obviously at this time of the year you just hope that everything carries on in the same way. He was unbeaten as a two-year-old, and I think he could be a star performer for us - hopefully he can continue to progress.”

Bow Echo is just one of a fascinating team that Boughey has to go to war with this term, and he kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about the yard heading into this season.
