El Nay ran a race full of promise on his debut at Lingfield, pulling clear with a useful sort, and he ought to go close again granted normal improvement, but NEW MONARCH still appeals as the most likely winner. Placed in novice/maiden events at Newbury and Ascot on his first two starts, he then finished a good fourth in the Convivial maiden at York and signed off his winless 2yo campaign by filling the same position in a 30-runner Goffs Million at the Curragh. It'll be disappointing if he isn't winning this en route to a crack at a race like the Free Handicap at Newmarket next month. Spirit Of Saxony shaped nicely on debut last summer and should prove well suited by this sort of trip at three. This is a tough race to reappear in though.
