I was expecting him to run well at Newbury on Friday, but he got no further than the second. He has only fallen once in his career previously and is normally a very reliable jumper. He is getting old, but he had been training well at home.

He won his juveniles well at Fontwell but was probably a bit weak for that bad ground at Cheltenham last time. We have just backed off him for a bit, and we will bring him out in the spring again. We like him but we will give him time to grow up.

He ran well under giving weight to all in the Gerry Feilden on Saturday and just didn’t get home in the closing stages, but he remains a progressive horse over hurdles and should be winning more races as the season progresses.
