Form profile

A tough, staying handicapper who has won three of his nine starts on turf, elevating his official rating to 96. Lightly raced this year, he has been kept under wraps since finishing a solid third in a valuable handicap at York’s Dante Festival in May.

Trainer says

I was going to run him in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock but that was postponed, so the next objective is the Summer Stakes over 1m6f at Glorious Goodwood. I think that turning track will keep him concentrating. I’d also like to run him in the Ebor, but he’ll need to go up in the weights to get in. I really do believe there’s a big handicap in this horse.

This smart filly was a creditable sixth in the Kensington Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot off a mark of 83 and confirmed that promise when third in the Listed Pipalong Stakes at Pontefract last time, getting much closer to Royal Ascot winner Doha, who was second.

Trainer says

The ground went against her in the Kensington Palace, and she travelled like the most likely winner at Pontefract next time but just didn’t see it out. My objective is to secure some valuable black type for her owner breeders, so we may look at the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood and the Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster in September.

Form profile

Now up in the 90s following his reappearance win over 1m at Carlisle in May, this grey gelding ran well in defeat in a valuable handicap at Hamilton on his latest start, suggesting he remains open to progression.

Trainer says

He’s a talented, thick set horse who has a great character. His record tells you that he’s probably best fresh as he’s won off a break twice now. He’s better going round a bend as it keeps his mind occupied. I’ve got races at Thirsk and York in mind for him.

Form profile

A generally reliable sprinter who runs in the Mecca’s Mate colours of David Metcalfe and has achieved both career wins on the All-Weather. However, he ran well at Carlisle in May, suggesting he can end his eight-race wait for a turf success.

Trainer says

He’s another who goes well fresh but ran a blinder at Carlisle in May over that stiff 5f on fast ground. He just didn’t go the gallop at Redcar last time but wasn’t helped by the draw bias there. He’s back on his last winning mark, so I’m hoping to win again with him.

Form profile

Last year’s Zetland Gold Cup winner was gelded over the winter and has had excuses in both starts in a limited campaign this season. Group placed at York as a juvenile, he will head back to The Knavesmire in August for his next assignment.

Trainer says

I have no doubt that he retains all his class. You can draw a line through his run in the Huxley Stakes at Chester and the ground went against him at York. I’d like to go back there for the Finale Handicap in August before having a crack at the Cambridgeshire.

Form profile

This classy five-year-old handicapper made all to win the valuable Hambleton Handicap at York on his reappearance in May and was beaten only two lengths in fourth in the Group 3 John O’Gaunt at Haydock Park after that. He has won four of his 24 starts, amassing around £170,000 in prize-money and achieving a rating of 105.

Trainer says

The ground was just too soft for him at Sandown the other day, but I plan to run him in the Listed Pomfret Stakes at Pontefract at the end of the month. I’ve got the Prix Quincey in mind for him in France in August, too. If he got a free rein there they’d never catch him but I’m not sure he’d get his ground.

Form profile

Consistent on the All-Weather through the winter without being able to add to her sole success in a Pontefract novice in 2023, this filly has proven at home over 5f, 6f and 7f but has disappointed in two starts on turf this summer.

Trainer says

She works exceptionally well. In fact, she’s the only horse I have who can put Regional under the sword on the gallops, but she hasn’t been able to win this year. She tends to hit flat spots in her races, but we’ll try again at York or Southwell later this month.

Form profile

The stable star who cost just 3,500gns three years ago before going on to win the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock Park last September. He has run two mighty races in defeat this season, firstly in the Group 2 Greenlands Stakes at The Curragh before going down just a length in second in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Trainer says

He’s the gift that keeps on giving – an absolute legend of a horse. What he’s done for his Future Champions syndicate, who paid just 3,500gns for him, is living proof that racing can be accessible for everyone, and that’s so important for our sport. He showed again at Royal Ascot that he’s one of the best sprinters in Europe, if not the world, right now. The Hackwood at Newbury on Saturday is his next objective. We could go for the Nunthorpe at York but may bypass that and wait for the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock which he won last year. After that we could have an autumn campaign abroad. We’re looking at races in Japan and Hong Kong.

Form profile

A winner on reappearance at Thirsk in May, he went down fighting at Doncaster the following month and remains open to improvement after just 10 career starts. A 7f specialist, he got no luck in running in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket last week but will seek compensation at Glorious Goodwood.

Trainer says

He was so unlucky in the Bunbury Cup. He was never off the bridle because he just couldn’t get a run at any stage. We may go to Glorious Goodwood for a 0-95 handicap over 7f. I think that track may just put some manners on him as he’s such a strong travelling horse. You have to take your medicine and drop in there and that could really suit him. I can assure you we haven’t seen the best of him yet.

Form profile

David Armstrong’s home-bred daughter of Mayson was second on debut in a 6f Redcar maiden before winning a similar race over 7½f at Beverley last month. She was second again on her latest start, going down just a nose under a penalty to Simon and Ed Crisford’s favourite Apotheosis.

Trainer says

The main objective is to achieve black type for her owner breeders. We’re not quite there yet but if she can win a handicap we may just progress enough to have a go at a Listed race later in the year.

Form profile

A debut winner on Tapeta at Southwell last September, this son of Outstrip hasn’t yet added to that success but remains lightly raced. Yet to encounter his favoured fast ground, he looks well placed to capitalise on an ease in the ratings when he gets the right underfoot conditions.

Trainer says

He’s a top of the ground horse, so I’m hoping he’ll confirm last year’s promise when he eventually gets his ground. He’s in at Doncaster this weekend but if it doesn’t dry out he may go to Beverley next week. At the beginning of the year I thought he was tailor made for the Britannia, but I’ve got him in a good place mentally now.

Form profile

A versatile sprinter who has won twice this season already, justifying cramped odds in a 5f Wolverhampton maiden in March before stepping up a furlong to win a Thirsk handicap off 75. He was third at Redcar on his latest start in June off a 2lb higher mark.

Trainer says

He’s a fun horse but I’m keen to keep him in 3-year-old only races, as he’s not that big and taking on older, more powerful horses might be tougher on him. There’s a race at Doncaster next week over 6f. I think that’s his best trip as he can travel better.

Form profile

Yet to win in six starts, this gelded son of Sioux Nation has nevertheless shown enough ability to suggest that a breakthrough isn’t that far away. He failed by only a head over 7f at Doncaster last month but has been raised 3lb for that near miss.

Trainer says

He’ll run at Haydock on Saturday if the ground dries up. He’s a hard knocking type who has plenty of ability and was a bit unlucky at Doncaster, where he hit the line well. He had the blinkers on for the first time that day and Sioux Nations have a remarkable record in headgear, so we’ll persevere with it.

Form profile

Progressive since being gelded in the winter, this well-bred son of Advertise stepped up in distance to get off the mark over 1m3f at Carlisle and promises to be even more effective over further as the year goes on.

Trainer says

He’s a great big horse who has been fun to train. He’s good for his current mark and will be back in mid-August. He has plenty of stamina, so I’ll be stepping him up to 1m4f or even 1m6f later in the season.

Form profile

Good efforts in defeat at Beverley and Musselburgh paved the way for a first career success in a 1m Doncaster handicap at the end of June. He showed a willing attitude that day and can remain competitive off a 4lb higher mark.

Trainer says

A bonny, solid horse with a progressive profile on top of the ground. Options are open with him, but he could go to Goodwood for a 1m handicap or wait for the Racing League fixture at Wolverhampton. That track could be a bit on the sharp side for him, though.

Form profile

The lightly-raced son of Calyx quickly progressed from a debut fourth over 1m at Newcastle to record back-to-back wins in an Ayr maiden and a 10f Haydock handicap. He wasn’t at home over a stiff 1m at Pontefract last time but remains of intertest off a rating of 83.

Trainer says

A big, talented young horse who just didn’t enjoy Pontefract. He really needs a galloping track where he can get into a good rhythm and 10f looks his ideal trip now.

Form profile

The winner of both his starts this year in novices at Redcar and Carlisle, the son of French Group 1 winner Recoletos is due to return from a mid-summer break off a rating of 90 with some ambitious targets in the pipeline.

Trainer says

I was keen to give him a break following his two novice wins earlier in the year. He’s a big, raw horse who would have had an ideal profile for the Britannia, but Royal Ascot would have come too soon for him. He’s a better horse than Mickley who won that for me. I’m looking at a £100,000 3-year-old only handicap at York and a Listed race in France in the autumn.

Form profile

He coped well with testing conditions to win at Thirsk in April and followed up off a 2lb higher mark over the same trip of 7f at Catterick in June. He may have preferred easier ground when out of the money at Haydock earlier this month but remains lightly raced and open to improvement.

Trainer says

He’s won twice with ease in the ground this year and is having a well-earned freshen up. I’ll be looking at races for him later in August as long as the ground is on the soft side.

Form profile

A big, scopey daughter of Inns Of Court, she was a pleasing third at Leicester on debut before winning a Haydock novice. She was no match for the promising Germanic in a similar race at Newcastle under a penalty last time but her opening mark of 76 looks workable.

Trainer says

The Leicester maiden she finished third in has turned out a hot race. She’s a lovely scopey filly who will be a better horse next year.

Form profile

Among the entries for a Doncaster novice on Saturday, this daughter of Territories hails from a family of useful 7f winners.

Trainer says

She’s a lovely filly who is ready to go and will run at Doncaster this weekend if the ground isn’t too soft. There are also options on the Tapeta at Southwell and Newcastle at the end of the month. I imagine she’ll be a bit raw first time, but she’ll come on for the experience.

Form profile

This consistent colt has been given an opening rating of 83 after making the frame in all three starts, including a 6f maiden at Ayr last time. Bearstone Stud’s son of Territories is a half-brother to five winners.

Trainer says

He’s done nothing wrong in three starts but has just bumped into a couple of nice ones. Now he’s got a mark I might run him in a 6f nursery at Goodwood later in the month though I’ll also give him an entry in the maiden there.

Form profile

A daughter of Make Believe who is set to make her debut this weekend. A seventh foal, she is related to a Listed winner out of a dam who was successful at 1m.

Trainer says

She’s a nice filly who may make her debut at Haydock this weekend. I also have a sharp-looking colt by Night Of Thunder called Natural Instinct and a New Bay colt called Danger Bay, who will be a smart prospect next year.
