Expert Analysis

Yet another Group 1 sprint in the UK which produced a winner that was enjoying their first success at the top level. Almeraq has a progressive profile though and might just be able to make more of a mark in a division that remains open. The pace was no more than even, with plenty of them coming home quicker than par, although certainly not flying either. In what was a tight finish, the winner just prevailed thanks to the quickest final furlong.

ALMERAQ didn’t look like he was going to get there for much of the closing stages here, but he did get his head in front where it mattered most. His finishing burst was rather impressive, having slowly made ground from his early position in midfield. There must be more to come after just seven career starts.

SATONO REVE only just failed, by the narrowest of margins, having been second to Lazzat last year (beaten half a length). It is hard to say he was unlucky for any reason, but he just couldn’t hold off the late challenge from the winner, who was quicker (by a length) for the final split.

JOLIESTAR was only third despite getting within a neck of the winner. She hit the front a furlong out but couldn’t maintain her effort. The stiff finish was ultimately her undoing here as it just tested her stamina enough to get her beaten.

STOLEN KISS came from much further back than the first three home and deserves an upgrade. He missed the break, but nothing was better in the second half of the contest.

LAKE FOREST produced a similar effort to Stolen Kiss, although he had to weave through the field a bit more. It was his first start at this trip since 2024 and might be worth pursuing as it can often take horses a few starts to adjust to sprinting.

GREAT WISH was having his first run on UK soil and it was a solid effort. He raced towards the far side and looked a threat briefly when pulled out to challenge, before hanging slightly and weakening late on.

COMANCHE BRAVE tracked the leaders early on and while he was short of room temporarily as the race developed, his run did flatten out in the final furlong.

LUGAL made ground in the middle of the race and came to challenge in the penultimate furlong but got tired in the closing stages.

SAYIDAH DARIYAN never really threatened to get seriously involved from a long way back but kept on past beaten horses.

REGIONAL made the early running but was swallowed up on all sides before the furlong pole.

KIND OF BLUE was slowly away but did make some ground without challenging in the second half of the race.

TIME FOR SANDALS couldn’t repeat her win her last year in the Commonwealth Cup. She weakened here having travelled reasonably to a point.

OVERPASS didn’t quite get home over the minimum here on Tuesday and it was a similar story here, although much more pronounced.

KHAADEM travelled well early but weakened quickly under pressure.

ARAMRAM was prominent far side but couldn’t keep up as the race developed and was eased soon after.

SAJIR was always towards the rear and was heavily eased in the closing stages.

JASOUR was far too keen and faded like one that wasted too much energy.

FLORA OF BERMUDA never ran any sort of race, shaping as if something was amiss after getting upset in the stalls.
