Listowel - Sat 30 May 2026
Murcia is the highest-rated horse in this field but she is not the most prolific member of the Willie Mullins stable, with two wins from 14 starts and just the one since arriving from France. ROYAL HOLLOW could prove the safer option and although rated 10lb inferior, she gets 8lb from her rival. Third on her return to hurdles at Killarney, she could get the better of these if putting her best foot forward, with Run For Mahler and perhaps Grainne A Chroi others for the shortlist.
Gomez Addams has to be considered after winning a bumper at Galway for Andrew Slattery before disappointing for his new trainer at Leopardstown, although on pedigree he might be better over further in time. Bells Grove may have his measure having placed in a Cheltenham bumper last October, but he also disappointed on his first start after changing yards and the vote goes to SMALL FRY. Joseph O'Brien's five-year-old won four races on the Flat and wasn't beaten too far when fourth over hurdles at Down Royal, and this may be his best opportunity yet.
Speed For Fun was sold for 40,000 euros last July and moved to Willie Mullins, although his Flat form only includes one Compiegne win from nine starts and he will need to take to hurdles to have a chance. Burning Ability placed in two bumpers before finishing second over timber at Limerick. He was then a disappointing sixth in another bumper at the same track, but could still be the biggest rival to JACK OWEN JACK. Second and third in his two bumpers, it will be interesting to see how he takes to the step up in trip and his first look at obstacles.
ILLTAKEHIMMYSELF just missed out over 3m at Punchestown on his first start since December. The unexposed five-year-old is entitled to improve for that reappearance run and this shorter trip could also prove in his favour. Jay Pee M has won off a higher mark over fences and ran well for a long way when sent off favourite over timber at Cork last time. He could be on the premises, while Jaadil is no forlorn hope if back on song.
Chanceawetmorning did just enough to win at Clonmel last time when landing a double. He'll need further improvement raised 7lb, while Falco Blitz may have been fortunate to finish third at Killarney because ELUSIVE OGIE unseated at the second-last. The latter was travelling well in second at the time and Eoin McCarthy's charge looks worthy of another chance on that showing. Big Dispute and Rockonliam could prove the pick of the remainder.
ONLY FOR OUR MAN arrives in fine fettle. He won nicely at Down Royal in April and went close to defying a 7lb rise when picked off late at Cork last time. Paul Nolan's progressive charge looks worth keeping on side and is taken to edge out Somersby Roost, who returned the easy winner at Cork and steps up in trip with solid claims. Clonmel winner Silent Guardian could make the frame if coping with the faster ground.
Both runnings of this race have been won by the favourite so the market may be a decent guide but, on form, Cork second TELL THE BOYS has every chance with her experience and Barry Stone's 7lb claim from the saddle. The President is one to watch as a daughter of Walk In The Park out of the high-class mare Benie Des Dieux, although she should be better over further in time. Vadique is also bred to win a race or two as a daughter of Vadamos.
Although disappointing at Punchestown last time, MURCIA looks to hold leading claims back in a non-handicap with her being the highest-rated runner in the field. She won a Grade 1 at Aintree as a 4yo - albeit a weak one - and could outclass these. There are some plausible dangers, including Royal Hollow, who has been holding her own at Listed level, and Run For Mahler, who struggled in a Grade 2 last time but should be more at home here.
A big field but not that many to consider with TOUCH THE MOON looking the most likely winner. He's been in fine form on the Flat of late and there was plenty to like about his earlier hurdling efforts in the autumn of last year. Small Fry ran well back hurdling at Down Royal last time and looks the danger for his top yard, although hurdles newcomer Gomez Addams needs respecting also on his bumper debut win.
Not much of a race and it can go to hurdling newcomer SPEED FOR FUN. The ex-French performer has joined the top stable in Ireland and, although back from an absence, he should prove fit enough to score at the first attempt. Burning Ability wasn't at his best back in a bumper last time but his previous hurdling efforts entitle him to respect. Jack Owen Jack has run well in both bumper outings and brings some potential to hurdles, so is third choice.
Plenty to consider in this big-field handicap. Where Are You Now ran well up to 3m last time, just paying late for having failed to settle, and it could be that this first run over 2m4f yields a first career success for the 5yo if he gets a run - he's a reserve at the time of writing - but it's ILLTAKEHIMMYSELF who is the selection following an improved second upped to 3m at Punchestown latest. The drop in trip ought not to be an issue and he has course experience. At bigger odds Dunany Point is interesting on the pick of his form and comes in as third choice.
This can go to BIG DISPUTE, who has been running well in maiden and novie hurdles and rates the most likely winner on this return to handicaps. The step back up in trip looks in his favour. Rockonliam is a solid alternative - he's been holding his form well - and conditions are again in his favour. Elusive Ogie is third choice as he was moving like the winner when coming down last time. Provided he's over the spill then he should be thereabouts.
The progressive ONLY FOR OUR MAN looks the most likely winner here. A winner at Down Royal two starts back, he followed that up with a good second at Cork and the first-time cheekpieces can help coax a little more progress. Way Down South has been running well since returning to hurdles and should again give a good account, so he's the danger, although Somersby Roost was a good winner at Cork last time and her new mark remains fair.
Tell The Boys sets the standard having improved quite a bit from start one to two when runner-up in a hood at Cork last time and she should again go well, but THE PRESIDENT has an appealing profile and is taken to make a winning debut for the top yard of Gordon Elliott. Velvet Ash didn't cost overly much but is from a top yard and needs respecting also.
