WHAT A GIRL WANTS has been highly tried so far in her career and it would be disappointing if the daughter of Persian Force couldn't get off the mark at the sixth attempt. Fourth in a Listed contest at Newmarket last time, she gets the vote at the expense of Sandown winner Not My Type, who has to give 7lb to the opposition. 100,000-euro purchase Empress Princess appeals most of the newcomers.
Mrs Mole produced her best effort so far when third at Lingfield and the manner of that performance suggests an opening mark of 60 is a workable one. Johns Power is another open to improvement on his nursery bow, but preference is for ENEMY ACTION. The application of cheekpieces are likely to sharpen him up in the early stages and that might help to make the difference based on his recent fourth at Thirsk.
ARIANE SKY got off the mark at Ffos Las on her nursery debut and a 3lb rise appears to be more than fair. There should be more to come from James Owen's filly and she can prove too strong for State of Gold, who improved when runner-up at Ripon in June and the extra distance might see her in a better light. Others to consider are Sovereign Beach and Amantha.
SHAZANI benefited from the return to 6f when just holding on at Doncaster following a string of consistent events at the same venue. Despite a 3lb rise, there is every chance he can progress again dropping to the minimum distance. Ingleby Archie has been running well all season and commands respect after being dropped 1lb for his latest fifth at York, while Call To Action is another with strong claims.
MR MOONSHINE has been knocking on the door with a pair of narrow defeats since going up in distance. Beaten a short-head into second at Hamilton and a neck into third at Chester, the application of first-time cheekpieces are likely to aid his cause and he can get his head in front now. That Darn Cantor is steadily improving and is capable of being in the mix, while Wardlaw is expected to bounce back from a lacklustre effort at Doncaster.
SAXON GRACE has been heading in the right direction since stepping up in trip at the start of the month. Having finished third at Hamilton, the three-year-old ran out a comfortable winner at Redcar on Saturday and a 6lb penalty might not be enough to stop her from following up. Harswell River is likely to return to form after her latest effort at Ripon, while a drop in trip may suit Royal Sizzler.
Not My Type created a fine impression when winning on her debut at Sandown and she may well be up to defying a penalty, but conceding 7lb to WHAT A GIRL WANTS might prove beyond her. Although the selection is relatively exposed, her last two runs have come in Group 2 company at Royal Ascot and when a fair fourth in Listed company on Newmarket's July course. This should be her day to come good. Empress Princess is a newcomer to note for good connections with the market likely to reveal plenty.
If turning out just two days after an improved second at Carlisle, then CONCERT PITCH must hold strong claims of a breakthrough success. He's potentially nicely ahead of the handicapper and can end a frustrating run of seconds. Johns Power looks a potential improver on this handicap debut and can emerge as the danger - he was noted doing some good late work when fourth at 80-1 last time. Mrs Mole, another handicap debutante, is third choice with the drop to 5f in her favour potentially.
Amantha is a consistent filly and seems likely to go well once more, but she could be vulnerable for win purposes with a couple of improver lurking. Ariane Sky got handicap life off to a winning start at Ffos Las and she could go in again with her revised mark fair, but she did enjoy the run of things on that occasion and perhaps SOVEREIGN BEACH could be the one this time. She ran well on her handicap debut at Chepstow and looks to be crying out for this step up to 7f.
There could be much more to come from SHAZANI as a sprinter, the gelding having looked happy down to 6f last time when displaying more than enough pace to think the minimum trip would be manageable. He still looks on a fair mark and is favoured over Call To Action, a largely consistent sort on a competitive mark and seeming likely to be thereabouts once more. Ingleby Archie is third choice with him having run well in a big-field handicap over 6f at York last time.
Grey Fable has been in decent form and enjoyed the run of things at Chester last time, but could be struggling to lead this time with Wardlaw in the line-up. He'll surely go forward in the first-time hood but is too risky a proposition given what happened at Doncaster latest. Let's go with MR MOONSHINE, who is progressing steadily as he goes up in trip and now gets cheekpieces first time. They could make all the difference.
SAXON GRACE is fresh off a breakthrough success at Ripon and she might be capable of kicking on a bit now she's got her head in front, so we'll take her to defy a penalty on this relatively quick reappearance. She can prove too progressive for the likes of Copper And Five, a capable 10yo who likes this C&D, and Ten Sixty Six, who needs considering on the form of her course fourth in July.
