GALACTIC GLOW has recorded four of his five wins so far at this venue and the return to a longer trip could spark the necessary improvement. Shifra has been in fine form at Lingfield and should be in the thick of the action again. Kev picked up a classified event at that venue, while Launceston struck at the same level at Ffos Las and both warrant consideration.
Q T BOY gave the impression this extra yardage would suit when runner-up in a nursery over 7f at Chepstow. He finished clear of the reopposing Thunda Struck (third) and a bold bid is anticipated from David Evans' charge. Magical Life won a nursery at Kempton last month and could well make the frame having placed at Lingfield subsequently, while Amethyst Star and Secret Flite are both worthy of a second glance.
Boilermaker has improved for the step up to 1m6f and has to enter calculations bidding for a hat-trick after a cosy win at Wolverhampton. However, CURRAN scored over C&D earlier in the season and won easily at Salisbury in July when last seen over this distance. Only 2lb higher for this series final, Rod Millman's charge looks to have strong claims in an open contest. Belle Of Kt is not without a shout in her current frame of mind and is preferred to Taritino.
Tony Carroll trained last year's winner of this contest and will have high hopes for Neptune Legend, who has won at the track on four occasions and placed once. However, he would need a career best off this mark and may have to settle for another place if THE FEMININE URGE runs to her best. Only beaten a neck over C&D last time out, she races off the same rating, making her the one to beat. Dark Sun and Mortubo both make the cut in a competitive renewal.
BIG HITTER has shown plenty of promise in all three previous starts and it would be no surprise to see her get off the mark here. Sacred Rhythm also displayed ability when filling fourth place on her racecourse bow at Lingfield and is expected to improve for the experience, making her a serious danger. Romidijo, who has solid placed form, can also feature.
Symbol of Hope is hard to ignore having won here seven times, with only the one success elsewhere. He was third over C&D last time and can go well with a clear run. That said, preference is for reopposing winner RECON MISSION, who finished a length and a half ahead and has only been raised 3lb by the handicapper. Spirited Dancer and Outer Edge are others for the shortlist.
Having recorded a double at Ffos Las last month in emphatic fashion, Oviedo must enter calculations given his resurgence. However, it remains to be seen if the six-year-old can post a similar performance off a 9lb higher mark, with TONAL edging the vote. Ian Williams' charge landed a gamble at the same West Wales venue and there could be more to come given his higher all-weather rating. Course specialist Blue Hero is a feasible alternative.
A switch to more aggressive tactics on his most recent outing saw FLAG CARRIER land the spoils at Windsor. The five-year-old scored with enough in hand to suggest that a 4lb higher mark is surmountable and he could prove tough to peg back if dictating the gallop. Mr Tony held on to make a winning stable bow at Chepstow and he's feared most, ahead of fellow last-time-out winner Danehill Star
An open race can go to the steadily progressive SHIFRA who is only 1lb higher than when runner up last time and that form has been franked. Veteran Gert Lush has bounced back to form of late and is well treated returned to handicaps. She is on a 3 year losing run but still looks the biggest danger ahead of inconsistent course specialist Galactic Glow. That rival has dropped in the weights and should appreciate this step back up in distance.
Q T BOY has to prove his stamina for this far but he looks well treated off just 2lb higher than when runner up over 7f on his handicap debut. The jockey booking suggests a big run is expected and he is picked to defeat experienced 1m winner Magical Life. Her latest run is worth marking up as she did much the best of those forcing the gallop. Amethyst Star improved when upped to 1m on her final qualifying run and could progress again now handicapping so is also respected.
An open race where the unexposed Boilermaker is likely to prove popular in his hat trick bid. He had plenty in hand last time and still looks ahead of his mark but he did have the run of the race from the front while THE CRAFTYMASTER flew home for second from an impossible position. His re-opposing rival has been thriving of late and gets a huge pull at the weights racing off a lower mark on turf so could reverse the form. Dual purpose performer Basilette has been in excellent form in both codes lately and was only narrowly denied here last time. She may fare best of the rest.
C&D winner MORTUBO should be up to defying top weight. She was only narrowly denied off 3lb lower than this on her follow up attempt last time and has a good draw from which to get early position. Geemann opened his account over C&D last time and looks the obvious danger off 5lb higher. The consistent Southbank has now dropped below his last winning mark and is also feared along with Legendsoftheland who met trouble when placing off this mark last time.
BIG HITTER sets the standard here and should be tough to beat. She did too much too soon last time but should get an easier time up front here and her previous runner up effort has been franked at Listed level. Romidijo may provide the stiffest competition for the lead and at the finish judged on her recent pair of runner up efforts. Sacred Rhythm finished well when midfield on debut and should be capable of better if settling. She may fill the final place on the podium.
KEN BRULEE is a risky proposition but the form of his most recent victory has been franked emphatically and he's just 4lb higher here. He is forgiven his last run where he went too fast and is fancied to dominate here. His biggest dangers may be the veteran pair Outer Edge and Symbol Of Hope. Both have returned to form of late off much reduced marks and the latter has a liking for this venue.
A strong race but there are a pair who stand out as well handicapped in Tonal and OVIEDO. The former cashed in on a lower turf mark last time and remains thrown in on the AW form he showed over the winter where he registered a number of victories. Minor preference is for the latter though who has justified strong support on his last couple of starts having tumbled down the weights. Though he has been raised another 9lb he has won off a mark 33lb higher in the past so should be able to complete the hat trick. The unexposed Decalogue remains a maiden but has been progressing since being upped to 1m and should chase the pair home.
The progressive MR TONY is a strong selection here. He has proven versatile surface wise over 7/8f and though he left a top Irish yard at the end of last year he has joined another strong stable. He overcame a long absence to make a winning debut for the yard and has only been raised 3lb so still looks well ahead of his mark. Eutropia was outclassed in the Chepstow Mile last time but the C&D winner had been running well since the spring prior to that. She is fancied to bounce back and chase the selection home ahead of consistent multiple C&D winner Dappled Light.
