EIGHTH IMMORTAL

2.30 - BAPP Group Of Companies BAPP Nursery (7f 6y)

A stride length of getting on for 26½ feet, when the average is around 24 feet, is a blessing on the whole but a curse on the Roodee and the reason why he got going all too late for third (with Lincoln Warrior one place behind) when 11-10 at Chester. That was the second time in as many starts that he was favourite, after his debut at Leicester where he beat all bar Dr Rascal, who this week maintained his unbeaten record in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood, making Eighth Immortal’s opening mark of 78 looking lenient.  The stable still hasn’t had a two-year-old winner this year, but the upside of his stride and the spark of his mark make him very interesting back on a straight course. 

ROMOTOSO 

3.05 - 7 Core Electrical Restricted Maiden Fillies' Stakes (6f 111y)

It’s a low bar set by the quintet who’ve run, Forest Berry officially rated 66, though Tiora Time tracks to be higher after her Epsom encouragement, but the door is open to an above-average newcomer and Romotoso could be just that, for a stable whose two-year-old stats read very well in 2026. Six of the eleven juveniles that William Knight has run have won, and three of them have been first time out, namely Soldier Of The Sea (6-4 favourite), Persazz (9-2) and Mashooga (5-1), the last two under Taylor Fisher. A February foal, therefore the eldest in here bar Blanquita, Romotoso is a half-brother to sprinter Militia, and from a Royal family line that goes back to Phantom Gold. 

MARINER

3.40 - Yates Drywall Ltd Handicap (1m2f 43y)  

His form figures at Doncaster are 1-4-2-4, and the ‘4’s include a trip too far (12f) last year and a bridge too far after traffic and trouble last time. A fast finish there nonetheless confirmed that Mariner is coming back to the boil, and he’s spent all year around a mile - speed that will serve him well in what projects to be a messy race, something that could potentially derail Super Hit given that one’s in-built keenness. The excellent Jennie Candlish stable has won with its last three runners, including French Affair at ‘Glorious’ Goodwood, and up-and-coming claimer Jude Fernandes has finished first, third and fourth on his three rides for the trainer. 

ARNAZ 

4.50 - Harrison College Handicap (7f 6y)

This is purely playing a hunch, but when the axis meet of emerging stable and sleeping handicapper then you get a horse like Arnaz. Operation Gimcrack was touched off in this 12 months ago, but a nose behind him was a Mark Loughnane reviver in 33/1-chance Triggered. Arnaz could well be reprising that role this year having dropped a stone in the weights since he joined the yard. That qualifies him for his first ever 0-60 here and coincides with his second start after a wind op. The stable’s stats are on an upward spike for the first time since May, a sign of things to come, and it is worth remembering that Arnaz was running well in 0-80's for Ed Walker around this time last year. 

ANOTHER INVESTMENT

6.00 - Grace And Dotty Handicap (6f 2y)

Nothing big nor clever here, as Another Investment speaks for himself in this spot, but if you could design a race for him, this would be it. This course and distance serve him very well, highlighted by his win in a 0-85 last summer (when Alex Jary was onboard), as well as his second on his penultimate start. The key to him is a strong pace, which is all but guaranteed with Shazani, Ziggy’s Condor and Mark’s Choice in the field. All the lights are green for Another Investment.
