Verdict

ZACHARY HICKES was unlucky to encounter a well-handicapped rival when finished second at Goodwood most recently. The winner of that race was heavily backed on the day and was handed an 11lb rise afterwards. A literal reading of that assessment would suggest the Roger Varian-trained gelding must be a key player off an unchanged mark here. Sixty Plus and Educator both saw winning runs extinguished last time out but the pair cannot be ruled out from bouncing back. Moon Angel is an effective stayer who also warrants a second look.

Were David Menuisier's horses in any sort of form then it would have been worth taking a chance on his Knightsail now he's stepping up 4f in trip to 14f, but with the handler continuing to struggle for winners it's probably safer to look elsewhere. Fellow 3yos Heroics, generally progressive, and Tai Hang Pegasus, a possible improver now upped in trip, are of interest also, but the selection is Roger Varian's ZACHARY HICKES. He's lightly raced and was ridden to get this 14f trip on his first attempt at Goodwood last time. They can afford to be more positive on him this time and he's taken to prove too strong from a mark of 78.
