Charlie and Mark Johnston Stable Tour

Form profile

Winner of four of his 15 starts and currently rated 96. Returned to winning form this month when making much of the running to beat Stay Well two lengths in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar (1m 2f) off a mark of 90.

Trainer says

He is in the Hunt Cup, but my gut feeling is to wait for him and go for the John Smith’s at York. His best form is over a mile and a quarter, and he was very impressive in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar.

Form profile

Winner of three of his 14 starts and currently rated 95. Finished runner-up, beaten a head, to Valley Forge in a handicap at Haydock (2m) in May off a mark of 93.

Trainer says

He would be one of our better chances of the week and he had an injury at the backend of last year so we went to Newmarket knowing he would need the run. We were very pleased with how he ran and then he did everything bar win at Haydock. He was beaten in the final strides, and he hasn’t run beyond two miles but on pedigree I would be pretty confident and he should go well.

Form profile

Winner of seven of his 16 starts and currently rated 112. A winner three times this season and put up a career best performance when beating Yibir a length and three quarters in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket (1m 4f) in April.

Trainer says

Living Legend will run in the Hardwicke on Saturday. He obviously had a tremendous spell through March and April and won at Newcastle and then won the Jockey Club Stakes. Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong in the Coronation Cup at Epsom. He anticipated the start and hit the gates and fell back onto his hocks and completely missed the break. For a horse who likes to be ridden positively that put him on the back foot from te word go. He didn’t really like the soft ground and didn’t really like the track. You can put a line through Epsom and he should get fast ground at Ascot which is ideal for him. I would be hopeful of a good show.

Form profile

Winner of six of his 26 starts and currently rated 97. Finished fourth, beaten 17 ½ lengths, to Protected Guest in a handicap at Nottingham (1m 6f) in April off his current mark.

Trainer says

He is probably one of three runners for us in the Ascot Stakes. Max has been a little bit out of form recently, but fast ground is very important to him and we have put blinkers on him for the first time to try and make him travel a bit sweeter. He needs to bounce back but he was fourth in the Copper Horse a couple of years ago and has the ability to be in the shake up.

Form profile

Winner of four of his 12 starts and currently rated 96. A winner at Wolverhampton (1m 6f) in April and placed three subsequent starts. Finished third, beaten three quarters of a length, to Get Shirty in a handicap at Hamilton (1m 4f) in May off a mark of 93.

Trainer says

The first plan would have been to run Tribal Art in the Copper Horse, but he didn’t even get in off 96. We are going up to two and a half but he is by Farhh and who would have a bit of confidence he might stay two and a half miles. He has some good solid form this year since he has been gelded and I think he could go well.

Form profile

Winner of four of his 10 starts and currently rated 109. Finished runner-up, beaten three and a quarter length, to Majestic Dawn in the Listed Festival Stakes at Goodwood (1m 2f) in May on his reappearance.

Trainer says

He has had more than his fair share of injuries this horse and we only seem to see him once or twice a year, but he finished third in the Duke of Edinburgh a couple of years ago and ran once last year. I was really pleased with his comeback run at Goodwood after another long layoff. He was a bit rusty early on and the winner had a freebie and was ten lengths clear at halfway. He has come out of the race ok and he is also in the Hardwicke.

Form profile

Winner of two of his 10 starts and currently rated 90. Runner-up, beaten half a length, to Salvator Mundi in a handicap at Doncaster (1m 6 1/2f) in June off a mark of 85.

Trainer says

He has a couple of entries the Queen’s Vase and the King George V Handicap, and he is a horse that has really progressed in his last two runs. He was very impressive over a mile and a half at Beverley then stepped up to a mile and six in what is a warm race we like to target for three-year-old stayers. He was in front everywhere bar the final stride and it was a career best effort from him. He is up to a mark of 90 and there are a few in there with marks in the 100s and he has a bit to find but in some ways the Queen’s Vase can be a slightly lesser competitive race than the King George V, which is one of the hardest races of the week to win.

Form profile

Winner of two of her six starts and currently rated 90. Won her first two starts this season at Ayr (7f) and Chelmsford (7f) before failing by a head behind Heredia in a Fillies’ Handicap at York (7f) in May off a mark of 85.

Trainer says

Winner of two of her six starts and currently rated 90. Won her first two starts this season at Ayr (7f) and Chelmsford (7f) before failing by a head behind Heredia in a Fillies’ Handicap at York (7f) in May off a mark of 85.

Form profile

Winner of five of his 15 starts and currently rated 98. Gained his last success at Beverley (7 1/2f) at the end of May when beating Percy’s Lad three and three quarter lengths off a mark of 89.

Trainer says

We have jumped around a bit with trip with him and he won over six at Hamilton earlier in the year and then won very impressively over seven at Beverley. He shaped as though he could step up to a mile, but the handicapper was stupidly harsh on him and put him up 9lb after Beverley which is going to make like hard for the rest of the year. He is in the Britannia but hasn’t got much to hide anymore.

Form profile

Third on only start as a two-year-old (8f) and won both races this season, a maiden at Redcar in May (10f) then a novice at Chepstow (12f) on Friday.

Trainer says

He could run in the Golden Gates. He won at Chepstow last Friday and he finished third at Kempton last year and fractured a pastern and was off for a long time. It has been a bit of a rush to get him fit at home but he won very impressively at Redcar at the end of May and then we sent him to Chepstow purely because it was the last chance to get a handicap mark to get him qualified for this race. He won again and still looks quite green and raw and if there is more to come from him. He is going to be a really good middle distance handicapper for us this year. Our concern is that he looked like he really enjoyed the step up to a mile and a half at Chepstow and it’s a bit frustrating we couldn’t get him out a week earlier and got him qualified for the King George V Handicap. This race may be a bit soon on his learning curve but I’m sure he will be running well in these better class handicaps.

Form profile

Winner of three of her 9 starts and currently rated 98. Finished sixth, beaten six and a half lengths, to El Caballo in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock (6f) in May on her latest start.

Trainer says

Tippy Toes will run in the Palace of Holyrood House. She has really improved in leaps and bounds this year. She won a listed race at Chelmsford on her first start and ran a really good race in the Sandy Lane at Haydock. There was bit of commotion at the start and a horse of Ger Lyons reared up and was withdrawn at the start. As a result, she was left in the stalls a lot longer than we would normally want. She completely fluffed the start herself and then made a lot of ground and got checked for room. We didn’t know if she was up to that level, but a lot went wrong but she still finished sixth and acquitted herself pretty well. I don’t know if she wants or needs to come back to five and it’s a bit of an experiment as there is nothing else for her in the near future. She worked on Friday and is in good form.

Form profile

Winner of two of her three starts. Successful at Ayr (5f) in April when beating Looking For Lynda a length and a quarter and followed up with a three length defeat of Mont Champs in a novice at Kempton (5f) in May, Creditable fourth, to Pillow Talk, in the Listed Marygate Stakes York (5f) in later that month.

Trainer says

She is entered in the Queen Mary and the Albany, and we haven’t decided which way to go. She won two fairly minor events at Ayr and Kempton but the form hasn’t worked out too badly and she beat Legend of Xanadu up at Ayr. I thought he ran really well in the Marygate at York and was just tapped for toe from two out to one out then stayed on nicely to the line. My gut reaction would be to go for Albany as we should be stepping up to six with her now but its a stiff five at Ascot. The last horse we won the Queen Mary with had won over six and I would say this year the Marygate looked pretty strong.

Form profile

Winner of one of his 2 starts. Off the mark at Musselburgh (7f) this month when beating Hour By Hour eight and a half lengths.

Trainer says

He ran over six at Yarmouth even though we knew he wanted seven furlongs but he needed some experience and dotted up over seven furlongs at Musselburgh. We think he is pretty smart, and he will go for the Chesham.

Form profile

Winner of one of his 2 starts. Off the mark with a half-length defeat of It’s Chico Time at Brighton (5 1/2f) in May.

Trainer says

He was a bit disappointing first time out at Musselburgh but showed a bit more of what we had been seeing at home at Brighton. It a fairly big leap up to the Norfolk but he is a full brother to Winter Power, and he has always shown a great deal of natural speed at home.

Form profile

Scored by six and a half lengths from Miska at Lingfield (7f) in May.

Trainer says

She will probably run in the Chesham on Saturday. She won easy at Lingfield, and she is highly regarded at home.

Form profile

Scored by two and three quarter lengths from Monte Forte in a novice event at Carlisle (5f) in May.

Trainer says

She won a pretty minor event at Carlisle but won impressively and there looks like there was plenty more improvement to come. The owner is keen to have a swing at the Queen Mary.
