Expert Analysis

Reporter: Simon Rowlands

The Rockfel does not usually represent top-drawer form but there are good reasons to take a positive view of this year’s winner, who strung out her rivals at the end of a well-run race – only the first two returned final-3f finishing speeds above 100%, and even then only just – in a smart overall time. Her 112 rating is the best in the race in recent years and puts her second to only Tahiyra (117) among juvenile fillies at present (written before the Cheveley Park Stakes had been run).

COMMISSIONING (112 here, 97 previously) put up a smart performance at just the second time of asking and looks destined for even better things, especially if her slight waywardness late on was simply down to inexperience. She raced in mid-field in a well-run race, was shaken up at halfway, edged right and was ridden when making headway over 1f out, hung left and led soon after, then forged clear, though kept up to her work pretty much to the line. By Kingman, she is stoutly bred on her dam’s side and will stay 8f no bother, and probably a little further judged on her striding.

ELECTRIC EYES (104 here, 75 previously) took a big step forward from her winning debut and impressed with how she travelled in this company, slowly into stride but going well in rear, switched right over 2f out and running on without getting in a blow, the tactics employed on her fine given how the race unfolded. A Siyouni half-brother to the French Derby winner Reliable Man, she should be suited by 8f and could have a decent race in her.

RAGE OF BAMBY (100 here, 89 previously) improved quite a bit on the form of her two wins previously while shaping as if a bit better is still to come, taking a good hold and close up despite a generous pace, edging ahead in the penultimate 1f but one paced when headed. Unlike the 2 who beat her, this may be far enough for her at present.

SWEET HARMONY (92 here, 88 previously) ran her best race and shaped a bit better than the result, close up/leading at a good pace but weakening approaching the final 1f.

SYDNEYARMS CHELSEA (91 here, 95 previously) ran respectably (Group 3 win at Deauville the time before was not strong form), quite free in mid-field and one paced late on. Connections have done well with a filly who cost only £9,000 as a yearling.

DANCE IN THE GRASS (88 here, 104 previously) may have some temperament, reluctant to load and outpaced from an early stage but rallying late in the day. It was not the longer trip that beat her the time before.

RICH (83 here, 85 previously)

DUBAI JEMILA (83 here, 78 previously)

OLIVIA MARALDA (75 here, 105 previously) picked a bad day to run her first poor race, close up until quickly beaten 2f out, but would have had her work cut out to be better than second or third in any case.

LAKOTA SIOUX (72 here, 96 previously) ran poorly for the second time, swishing her tail from an early stage, and needs treating with caution.

IPANEMA PRINCESS (71 here, 90 previously)

EXIMIOUS (56 here, 88 previously)

CELL SA BEELA (0 here, 86 previously)

LEITZEL (0 here, 82 previously)
