Verdict

The majority have something to prove at present and it may pay to persevere with FINGAL'S HILL. Peter Atkinson's gelding returned to form with a respectable second over an inadequate 2m1f here and, off his last winning mark, makes most appeal. Although Smokeringinthedark was underwhelming when well beaten at Doncaster, a second on his penultimate outing at Musselburgh gives him leading claims, while southern raider Rare Edition lurks on a dangerous mark.

FINGAL'S HILL is fancied to repeat last year's success off 12lb higher. He's back on his last winning mark and returned to form when runner up last time in similar conditions. Smokeringinthedark found the ground too soft last time but he had proven consistent prior to that so looks the biggest threat. Rare Edition has been out of form recently having struggled with his jumping but the handicapper has quickly relented so he isn't ruled out either.
