Witness Stand defeated LAKE FOREST in this contest 12 months ago, but it's hard to envisage that form being upheld this time around. William Haggas' gelding returned with an impressive Listed win at Haydock before emerging with plenty of credit in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. It did once again prove that 6f is probably a little shy of his optimal trip, though, and he is upwards of 4lb clear on official ratings. Qirat bounced back to form in the Criterion and is sure to threaten if allowed to set his own fractions, while Marvelman appears to hold solid claims too.
LAKE FOREST doesn't have the best strike rate due to his run style but he should get his optimum conditions today. He flew home in the Jubilee Stakes last time over an inadequate 6f and he previously defeated a couple of these at Listed level. That form has been boosted in a Group 1 and he can make amends for an unlucky defeat to Witness Stand in this last year. Qirat also caused a huge shock at this meeting in 2025 landing the Sussex Stakes and he bounced back to form with an all the way win in the Criterion last time. He looks the biggest threat though he does face competition up front from Marvelman. The Park Stakes winner is entitled to come on for a promising reappearance in the Chipchase where he was a touch keen. He will appreciate the step back up in trip and should be able to gain a place.
