An eventful Goodwood Cup from the very outset, as Amiloc unseated leaving the stalls. He still impacted the race, without his rider, although not the result. He may have inconvenienced Trawlerman, but his real impact was how he drew a huge performance out of Scandinavia, a horse who maybe only did enough previously. That was not the case here as the winner pulled eight and a half lengths clear of those with a jockey, in a staying performance out of the very top drawer.
produced a career best as he tried to hunt down the riderless Amiloc. In the process, he saw this test out with relentless stamina, as he poured it on when all of those in behind had cried enough. He was always close to Trawlerman this time and after taking it up early in the straight when his main rival was hampered, he was eight and a half lengths clear at the line.
was certainly inconvenienced by the loose horse, but it didn’t affect the overall result. He would have finished closer, but he still wouldn’t have gotten near Scandinavia in this sort of form. Trawlerman is a good stayer, but the winning performance here was one of a great one. He did well to hold Rahiebb for second given how the race played out.
saw this out better than the stiffer test at Ascot in the Gold Cup, but his final furlong certainly suggests this is his limit at this level. In truth, he probably would be better over a couple of furlongs shorter, but weaker opposition may see him get away with this distance.
was held up early and gradually passed beaten rivals to finish fourth. He plugged on in the final two furlongs without ever threatening to get seriously involved.
