Expert Analysis
The Group 2 contest over a mile for the older fillies and mares saw the cream rise to the top with Blue Bolt winning as the 5-2 market leader and the second-favourite Friendly Soul slightly unlucky in third. The race was run at a strong pace with the race finishing speed percentage of 99.28%, with many of those prominent early producing a significantly lower percentage. The first three pulled clear of the remainer inside the final furlong.
BLUE BOLT produced a career best effort on her second start as a four-year-old. Having improved through last season, she may well do the same again. She made smooth progress from mid-division here inside the final three furlongs and when asked to go and win the race approaching the furlong pole, her response was impressive. Bigger tests lie ahead now at the top level, but she could do no more here.
JANCIS edged off the rails shortly after turning in and tracked the winner through from there but just lacked the acceleration to go with her. She stayed on well enough in the slow finish without ever looking like she was getting to the winner.
FRIENDLY SOUL was a little unlucky both at the start and the end of the race. Early on she got shuffled back as space was at a premium, which meant she eventually settled in rear. Oisin decided to take the brave man’s route up the rail, but Friendly Soul was denied a clear run and only saw daylight too late in the day. She came home best of all but had to settle for third. Hard to say definitively she would have beaten the winner, but it would certainly have been close.
KON TIKI tracked Jancis but had to be taken back when that rival went through a gap ahead of her early in the straight. That put her on the back foot momentarily, but when switched out behind that rival she stayed on again, although lacking the gears of the principles.
SNELLEN came from even further back and plugged on up the straight when pulled out toward the centre of the track.
CAROLINA JETSTREAM deserves to have her effort marked up considering she was right up with the strong pace. I would forgive her for getting tired in the final two furlongs after her earlier exertions.
CATHEDRAL also raced close enough to the strong pace and travelled well into the straight. She was unable to sustain her effort when pulled out to challenge though and was quickly swallowed up by those coming from off the pace.
ARISAIG tracked the leaders on the rail turning in but weakened in the final two furlongs.
GODSPEED was held up and made her challenge widest of all early in the straight but was bumped and weakened quickly soon after.
FALAKEYAH raced in mid-division on the rails but didn’t pick up inside the final two furlongs.
FRANCOPHONE settled in midfield, pulled wide in the straight but failed to make any inroads.
DASH OF AZURE had a wide trip throughout and was a touch keen, finding little as the race developed.
CATALINA DELCARPIO was nudged to close rounding the home turn from mid-division, but the response was poor and she faded quickly.
SHES PERFECT made the early running but weakened soon after passing the two-furlong pole.
NOCHE CLASICA was keen just behind the leaders through the race and faded early in the straight.
