A race which formerly took place at the Curragh but there is no reason to think there was much in the way of a fall-off in quality, and it went largely to form. The pace was sound, and maybe a bit more than that mid-race, with the race finishing speed a fairly slow 97.9% on ground that was probably no slower than “good to soft”. It was by some way the fastest of 4 races at the trip on the card, though some of the differential is accounted for by the others being for juveniles.
ZARINSK (108 here, 109 previously) had the best claims on form and duly obliged, but in workmanlike style rather than better, leading for 2f and again 2f out, hard ridden and digging deep to hold on. She only just lasted home at 8f here in May but that was on even more testing ground than here.
HONEY GIRL (106 here, 107 previously) ran creditably but did not entirely get the run of things and should have made it even closer, held up, niggled by halfway then briefly a bit boxed in as she made headway on the inner 2f out, going on well when in the clear but not quite getting in a blow.
TARAWA (105 here, 106 previously) continues to run creditably but that was only enough for a minor placing again, soon tracking the leaders and travelling OK at this shorter trip, challenging well over 1f out but one paced late on.
POWER UNDER ME (108 here and previously) confirmed his Group 3-winning form here the time before, a bit slowly away but soon recovering to track the pace, slightly short of room over 1f out and keeping on for pressure. He seems equally effective at 7f/8f now.
COSMIC VEGA (102 here, 103 previously) ran creditably in this higher grade but was unable to raise his game late on having been held up travelling comfortably.
SALT LAKE CITY (101 here and previously) ran creditably but did not seem comfortable at this still shorter trip, soon niggled along, unable to hold his place mid-race but staying on again at the death.
