BRIAN proved much more competitive when finishing second to a subsequent winner at Newbury and he makes plenty of appeal off an unaltered mark. Moreover, the four-year-old enjoys cut in the ground so conditions look ideal. Monday's Epsom runner-up Rhoscolyn clearly retains plenty of ability and a 2lb lower figure makes him a live threat, while Brighton Boy should appreciate a return to this trip.
In testing conditions those with soft and heavy ground form are the ones to side with. Veteran Rhoscolyn will relish conditions and is a stone below its last winning mark despite returning to form last time. He is greatly respected but the consistent ATA RANGI is marginally preferred having run a solid race on ground much quicker than ideal last time at Ascot. This is a much weaker contest and he can repeat last year's success off a 4lb higher mark continuing his good course record. Top weight Brian hasn't won in a while but he proved his stamina last time when returning to form off a much reduced mark and he can also play a part.
