Verdict

Ashnak was a useful performer in France and has to be noted on his debut for these connections. That said, HARVEY caught the eye when third over a mile at Kempton recently and this unexposed four-year-old may improve significantly now stepped up in trip. Port Of London represents top connections and should not be underestimated, while Atherstone Warrior edges out Castle Stuart and Spioradalta to be next best.

Atherstone Warrior did best of those who contested the November Handicap here last term and is the obvious place to start. He racked up a double over 10f before that and will appreciate the drop in trip combined with easy ground on his return. However his lack of fitness is a concern and he could be vulnerable to the lightly raced PORT OF LONDON. The selection still needs to prove his effectiveness on turf but he was progressing nicely on the AW over the winter and he had plenty in hand when winning from the front last time so a 6lb rise looks lenient. Harvey is well treated on his French efforts and has been running into form for his new yard so is also of interest at a bigger price.
