Youngster ONWARD was also 3rd over this course and distance last time so should have a role to play. DEVIOUS LOOKS and OH LA AMOUR would have benefitted from encouraging introductions and could improve to make their presence felt. PURPLE RAIN had excuses for a disappointing last start and may do better with a tongue-tie fitted.

Cape Guineas winner JAN VAN GOYEN was gelded after his last start at Grade 1 level and is open to improvement on his reappearance. Joint best-weighted runner PRESSONREGARDLESS remains competitive under a penalty, as does fellow last-start winner HAWKBILL on his return after a layoff. Consistent DANCE KING and fitter WILD INTENT also have the means to get involved.

Well-bred FLOWER ISLAND impressed when winning on debut, beating male rivals. She is open to any amount of improvement on her reappearance so it could pay to follow her progress against same-sex opposition. GRISELDA has done little wrong and boasts feature-race form which should stand in her good stead. Stablemates ALICE B TOKLAS and GRANDE HAWAII confirmed the promise of their debuts with last-start victories and should also be competitive with further progress expected. LOVE NOT WAR was 3rd in a Grade 3 last time so must be respected.

Unbeaten HEATH HOUSE is hard to oppose after 3 consecutive wins, each one more impressive than the last. BETTER NEVER ENDS was a 40-1 winner of a course-and-distance Grade 2 last time so must be respected. However, jockey Muzi Yeni deserts that last-start winner in favour of wide-margin debut scorer GIMME SOME LUCK, suggesting the latter could pose more of a threat to the selection. PRAYERSANDPROMISES (cheekpieces fitted) and stablemate VIKING LASS (sex allowance) can get into the picture too.

KING HARALD and GOLDEN OPERATOR have a score to settle. The latter, unbeaten with blinkers on, edged their most recent meeting and is weighted to confirm the form of that last-start victory over this trip. FIRE STORM has won both starts with a tongue-tie fitted and should remain competitive at this level. ERROL FLYNN had excuses for a disappointing last start at Grade 1 level and should not be ignored after a subsequent break. Unexposed debut winner DAWSON'S ANVIL and stablemate OVATION STAR also warrant respect.

MONEY HEIST finished ahead of MAIN DEFENDER in a course-and-distance Grade 2 last month and is weighted to confirm that form on these revised terms, though the latter could have more to offer in first-time blinkers. TEXAS RED made no impression in the same race but is a lot better than that effort suggests and could have a role to play on earlier form. WORLD OF ALICE made an encouraging Highveld return over a distance short of her best and should pose more of a threat over the extra 200m. Stablemate CARE FORGOT is weighted to be competitive and closely matched on recent form with BOB'S YOUR UNCLE.

DOITWITHDIAMONDS and DIOGENES boast recent feature-race form so should be competitive at this level off their current marks. ROYAL EDITION, WAYNE and JORDAN have the form and experience in this grade to play leading roles. TITANS OF WAR and last-start winner KUDZU complete the shortlist.

ZALATORIS is course-and-distance suited and boasts solid form credentials at this level so will likely fight out the finish with consistent KARATE KID who fits a similar profile. THE LAST DUKE, versatile MAX THE MAGICIAN and filly SEASON'S GREETINGS are also competitive on the strength of their recent form.
