Newcastle - Tue 19 May 2026
LADY PHOEBE returned to this code with a convincing victory over the best part of 2m6f at Pontefract last month. This shorter distance is not an issue for the five-year-old and a 5lb rise may not be enough to anchor her, with Jake Dickson's allowance helping her cause. Angelardo returns to this venue for the first time since scoring over C&D in March. He makes more appeal than recent Southwell runner-up Star Of Jupiter.
Littlecote keeps finding one too good and hung badly right when going close at Wolverhampton. She could still prove competitive once again, but TICKER TAPE is taken to improve past her. The half-sister to Ascot Gold Cup hero Courage Mon Ami took a step forward to finish a commendable fourth when upped to 1m2f at Lingfield and will appreciate this extra test of stamina. Danseuse is bred for middle-distances and makes more appeal than fellow newcomer Hello Friend.
The market may offer some clues as to what is expected from these newcomers, but a speculative vote goes the way of REAL TROUBLE. Already gelded, the 105,000gns son of Mehmas is entered in valuable sales races later in the season and Archie Watson can get one ready at the first time of asking. The speedily-bred Martial Order could make his presence felt, but Lehbab Prince may be seen to better effect over longer trips in the future.
Spaceman made a promising start when dead-heating for second behind a subsequent Listed winner at Redcar. He is expected to take a decent step forward from that initial experience and the drop in trip isn't likely to be an inconvenience. That said, GOLD DIGGER brings the strongest form to the table as she makes her first appearance since finishing sixth in the Albany at Royal Ascot. Despite not holding any fancy entries, this run will qualify her for the 5f handicap back at the Royal meeting next month and she is taken to make a successful return. Kempton winner Zain Primus completes the shortlist.
OASIS COVER improved on her novice/maiden efforts when finishing third on her handicap bow at Nottingham earlier in the month and Ed Bethell's filly is entitled to step forward from that display. Golden Havana was beaten less than a length into fourth over C&D and the switch of headgear from blinkers to a visor could yield further progression, while being gelded might aid the cause of Brave Traveller.
HEN PARTY's fourth at Nottingham on her return to the fray might have blown the cobwebs away and she's a tempting proposition in a race like this now she's got that outing under her belt. She strikes as the type who could improve through the handicap ranks this season and the three-year-old gets the nod ahead of Annie Edson Taylor and Fizzy Cristal.
Lord Capulet is really progressive and boasts four wins from six starts over C&D. Kevin Ryan's charge will no doubt prove popular, but the value may lie elsewhere and KING'S SCHOOL is just as effective at this venue. A three-time winner over track and trip, Gemma Tutty's charge caught the eye here last time and is likely to be finishing off his race stronger than anything else. Atmosphere is noted too.
LADY PHOEBE made a winning Flat return last time relishing the stamina test and is expected to follow up here. She's only 2lb higher when her jockey's claim is taken into account and she remains unexposed over staying trips. Spring C&D winner Angelardo looks the obvious danger with the step back up in trip a big positive while at a bigger price Edwardtheninth is of some interest. The frustrating maiden has generally been in good form of late and will appreciate the return to the AW.
LITTLECOTE has proven steadily progressive as her trip has increased and is chosen to gain a first victory here. Though she was turned over at short odds last time she was beaten by a useful looking type and should be capable of better again if settling. Ticker Tape was another beaten favourite last time but that effort still makes him look the biggest danger on form ahead of Maneater who has run well on both starts so far and should relish this extra distance.
No form to go on but REAL TROUBLE represents a trainer/jockey combination which have a record record with newcomers. He has speed in the pedigree and her dam went close on debut before winning next time so he gets the verdict. Martial Order is another who should be suited by this speed test judged on breeding and he represents a yard with an excellent record with its 2yo debutants. He could provide a big threat along with Lehbab Prince who may want further in time but comes from a top stable.
GOLD DIGGER has a huge absence to overcome but the debut winner is clearly held in high regard having been tried in a strong Albany next time so is chosen to make a winning reappearance. She sets the standard on form on that run so can defeat last time out winner Zain Primus who has seen the form of that victory boosted several times since. Spaceman finished well after running green on debut and can also pose a threat if making the expected improvement.
ZOUSTAR DREAMS is picked to continue the fine form of the Ed Dunlop stable. She is well treated on her 2yo maiden form and should appreciate the return to the AW while she remains unexposed at the minimum trip. Golden Havana was successful over C&D in nurseries and bounced back to form here on her reappearance. If building on that she will be the chief threat ahead of Brave Traveller who is well treated on his course win but may find this on the sharp side.
HEN PARTY has been a touch unlucky not to won already but she can shed her maiden tag here. She looks well treated on her 2yo form and is entitled to come on for her latest outing where she ran well for a long way until her fitness gave out. Annie Edson Taylor returned to form on her reappearance last time and that run is worth marking up as she met plenty of trouble. If building on that she can fill the places with Fizzy Cristal who proved progressive last term and is forgiven her reappearance.
LORD CAPULET can continue the winning run here. He arguably idled a touch in front last time so a 5lb rise looks lenient with a return to this venue in his favour. He can confirm that form with The Green Man who may have been a bit closer last time if he hadn't blown the start. He can fill the places with Atmosphere who held his form well over the winter and has seen his latest runner up effort boosted.
