Verdict

AFRICAN SPIRIT was just ahead of a subsequent winner when making the frame at Windsor. That represented a major step forward on his previous efforts since joining Ian Williams and, if anything, he is happier on the all-weather. He is preferred to Emery Down, who has been getting better with racing and served notice her turn could be imminent when runner-up at Ayr. Cooramook is a 20-race maiden, but has been knocking on the door over C&D.

Top Tip: African Spirit (9)
Watch out for: Emery Down (4)

Cooramook is a solid pick despite top weight - she's finished runner-up over C&D the last twice - and she again ought to be bang there, while Emery Down ran a good race at Ayr last time. She can go well, but it's the 3yo BASED who appeals most. Strong at the finish when winning over C&D in June, a slow start hampered his chance last time and he's still competitively weighted if getting away on terms this time.
