SHALFA was second, albeit well held, in a maiden hurdle at Plumpton a couple of weeks ago and that effort suggests that she could play a leading role in a race of this nature on her handicap bow. Plantaroma has not been disgraced on her last couple of starts and may benefit from the application of first-time cheekpieces, while Little Venice completes the shortlist.
A weak race and it might be the day PLANTAROMA finally gets off the mark. She's hit the runner-up spot five times and has finished third on her last two outings over fences after undergoing wind surgery. Back hurdling and down again in the weights, she won't get many better chances in the first-time cheekpieces. Little Venice is consistent enough and readily forgiven her latest effort at the end of a busy spell on deep ground. Shalfa has twice run well since returning to hurdles and is respected on this handicap debut.
