A race win more often than not by Paul Nicholls between 2006 and 2017, including with such stars as Silviniaco Conti and Frodon, and he looks to have another smart one on his hands with Knappers Hill, who almost matched his 154-rated hurdles form at just the second attempt over fences. The pace was on the sedate side, with the first 2 quickening clear in the home straight, Knappers Hill’s finishing speed for the final 4f as high as 110.9%.
KNAPPERS HILL (c151+ here, 143+ previously) looks like being at least as good a chaser as he was as a hurdler (in which sphere he won the Elite Hurdle here and Sandown’s 22f Select Hurdle, both Grade 2s), all but there already after just 2 starts, this one showcasing some slick and enthusiastic jumping as well as his trademark turn of foot. He disputed the lead/raced close up until going on for sure 5 out, quickening after one reminder before 2 out, which he pinged, and crossing the line with something to spare.
LADY ADARE (c139 here, 121+ previously) ran a belter against an accomplished rival, sure to win more races against her own sex and maybe the other one too. She was held up a bit wide, not fluent at a couple mid-race, went second 3 out and ran on well without matching the winner’s speed on the flat or over the fences.
CAPTAIN CONBY (c131 here, 135 previously) was a bit below form but would have had his work cut out with the 2 who beat him even were that not the case, awkward at a couple early but still going comfortably until outpaced from going to the third-last.
GIVEGA (c113+ here, unraced chases previously) should come on for this, his chasing debut, a bit free and close up until weakening after 4 out.
DOYEN STAR (c111 here, unraced chases previously) showed a little on what was his chasing debut, in touch until outpaced after 4 out.
