Verdict

Mehmas Champion achieved a useful level of form when trained in Germany and is respected on his British/stable debut, but SONG OF THE CLOUDS looks the safer option. William Haggas' filly, who holds an entry in the Coronation Stakes, was only beaten two lengths into second on her racecourse bow at Newbury last month. A step up to the mile should be in her favour and this represents a fine opportunity. Fozzie might not be far away either.

Watch out for: Mehmas Champion (3)

German Group form is not to be taken at face value, so Mehmas Champion, who on the face of it ran a fine race to finish fourth in their 2,000 Guineas 12 months ago, is worth opposing here with him having changed hands for just 14,000gns last October. He also returns newly gelded. Fozzie is a solid alternative having finished an improved second at 66-1 on his return, but it's the filly SONG OF THE CLOUDS who appeals most for William Haggas. She showed plenty on her Newbury debut and should relish the extra furlong.
