Verdict

TAWAKAL, who boasts an entry in the Gimcrack at York next month, is an attractively-bred colt that is hard to ignore. Having cost 36,000 euros as a yearling, the son of Starspangledbanner's price tag rose to 325,000 euros at a breeze-up purchase in May. Obviously an eye-catching mover, this could be an ideal starting point. Gold Reef City, Supreme Star and Whiskey Galore are entitled to be wiser for their debut runs, but Halloween Jack is bred for speed and could be a bigger danger on his racecourse bow.

Gold Reef City was well fancied for his debut but was too green to do himself justice. He is likely capable of much better for his top yard but may just need some more experience. TAWAKAL was an expensive purchase with an attractive pedigree and represents a yard in fantastic form particularly with his 2yos. He can make a winning debut with fellow newcomer Halloween Jack also worth a precautionary market check.
