Verdict

For whatever reason, GATEHOUSE wasn't at the races at Newmarket last time out but can be given another chance on the evidence of his determined wins at Chelmsford and Southwell previously. He broke through over this trip so there aren't any stamina concerns, and he's taken to get the better of Ripon winner Mudita and Beverley scorer Barbury Boy, who may appreciate the drop back to 1m2f.

Watch out for: Mudita (4)

Barbury Boy is proven in handicaps having won at Beverley two starts back and he didn't stay 12f at Haydock last time. This is more suitable but handicap newcomer THAT DARN CANTOR makes plenty of appeal now stepping back up in trip and is taken to score under Oisin Murphy. He's newly gelded and is bred to improve with age. Mr Bollinger is another handicap newcomer to take seriously, also stepping back up in distance.
