Verdict

SPY CHIEF was well fancied for the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, but ran no sort of race. However the four-year-old, who had gone close against subsequent two-time Group 1 winner Almeraq at Salisbury the time before, has been given sufficient time to recover and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if he bounced back. Catullus ran with credit when pacemaking for Talk Of New York at Goodwood and reverting to 7f should be in his favour. The consistent Elarak is entitled to benefit from the return to 7f too.

Top Tip: Spy Chief (5)
Watch out for: Catullus (8)

Elarak is coming off a career best when dropped to 6f at Newmarket's July course but he stays this trip just fine and should again go well, while last year's third Spy Chief is clearly capable but hardly reliable. The best option might be the 3yo CATULLUS, a good handicap winner after a wind op at Goodwood in the spring who ran really well over 8f at Group 3 level at Glorious Goodwood. He was made plenty of use of then but can take a lead here. Fellow 3yo Leading Dancer was last seen winning a C&D Listed event 11 months ago but she retains potential, as does the 4yo filly All Moonshine, who has won four of her last five starts.
