A Willie Mullins-trained winner, but presumably one that is down the novice hurdle pecking order at Closutton, which is perhaps an ominous sign for other yards, though Mullins himself has been quiet by his standards in maiden hurdles lately, with his winter novices slow to appear.
DOCTOR STEINBERG was dropping down in trip and running on testing ground for the first time in a while, but Danny Mullins rode him forward to test the stamina of the others and he found plenty to win with a bit in hand. He made a couple of slight errors while also hanging left late.
THEDEVILUNO won a Gowran maiden hurdle over two miles that worked out well and stepped up at that form, travelling as well as any having been held up. He should have no problem dropping back in trip.
KOVANIS ran his race and had no excuses.
PORT AUTHORITY was strong in the market but didn’t run to form, hanging down the hill and his rider was quick to accept defeat. He was found to be blowing hard post-race while also picking up a graze and is presumably better than this having been an impressive winner at Naas last time.
