Verdict

BIG JOHN WAYNE stepped forward from his return to action on chase debut at Ayr when finishing third at the same venue last time. The eight-year-old is likely to improve again from that effort and has an ideal opportunity to get off the mark. Casual Observer finished second on his chasing bow at Bangor and looks the obvious threat to the selection. Ned Tanner appears best of the remainder.

This could be a match race between BIG JOHN WAYNE and Casual Observer. The former has an experience edge after being given some very considerate rides over inadequate distances so far. The point winner looks on a generous mark based on his hurdle form and is open to significant improvement at this stiffer track if ridden more positively. He can account for Harry Derham's gelding who travelled well to a point before being allowed to coast home on his chase debut. He's entitled to come on for that first run in a year and with his yard flying he has to be of serious interest. Carrigeen Castle has dropped below his last winning mark having failed to stay 3m of late. He can fare best of the rest back down in trip.
