The usual pick ‘n’ mix that this race tends to attract, the winner previously successful at the top level in the Supreme but having his first run over hurdles since April 2024. The pace was quite strong as Kawaboomga and Glen Kiln went at it from early on.
got a good ride from Darragh O’Keeffe. He was initially on the pace but was taken back early and let the front two go at it before pressing them from three out, causing them to race sooner than ideal. Even so, Slade Steel travelled much the best in first-time cheekpieces and won with a bit in hand despite making mistakes. He gives his owner another good option for staying hurdles.
was part of a strong pace and got racing sooner than ideal, not fluent three out either. He rallied well late and this was good run after an interrupted season.
was never travelling here and made mistakes before running on late. This seems to be his style of racing, and he needs a test at this trip, though he maybe be better suited to stepping up to three miles.
was outpaced heading for the turn in before rallying well, looking in need of further.
travelled well for much of the race but didn’t finish off well. This has been a lost season for him, and hopefully he can get back on track sent chasing next winter.
