Verdict

TIME FOR SANDALS was desperately unlucky in the Nunthorpe and would have gone very close had she secured a clear passage, but can gain compensation on this occasion. Harry Eustace's filly does have something to find with the July Cup winner Comanche Brave, though, and will need to be at the top of her game again. Starlust (second) and Rumstar (third) finished ahead of the selection on the Knavesmire and neither can be underestimated but nor can Night Raider, who should be well suited by this course and distance.

MISSION CENTRAL is best forgiven his last couple of runs where he failed to stay a strongly run 6f in the July Cup before being unsuited by the softer surface in the Nunthorpe. He gets his ideal conditions of a stiff 5f on a sound surface here and is picked to get back to the level of form he showed when landing the King Charles III at Royal Ascot. His biggest dangers by some distance look to be recent conquerors Time For Sandals and Comanche Brave. The former is the 2025 Commonwealth Cup winner and he returned to his best when an unlucky loser at York finishing on the bridle after getting no run. He is feared most despite the latter setting the standard on ratings following his Newmarket victory. He will once again be suited by the sound surface but he needs to prove he can lay up early over this shorter distance.
