Expert Analysis
Not the easiest race to assess in that a horse who seemed to have had his limitations exposed in handicaps dished out a sizeable beating to some promising and quite accomplished rivals, but a useful overall time suggests Camprond improved on what he had done previously, and he has been rated on race standards for now. A sound pace steadied briefly mid-race.
CAMPROND (h143 here, 134 previously) seemed to step up his form at around 2m, though would not be sure to get much further, jumping sloppily at times but tracking the leader from halfway, leading 2 out and ridden clear, wandering but running on. Things are likely to be tougher for him when the better novice hurdlers appear.
LUTTRELL LAD (h138 here, 112+ previously) improved a lot on the bare form of his win on his only previous start over hurdles, not exactly unexpectedly given his good form in bumpers (fourth at Aintree), held up in touch and a bit free, unable to match the winner’s change of pace 2 out but sticking to his task. He should stay further and can win another race or 2 kept away from the best.
UP FOR PAROL (h124 here, 131 previously) was a bit below form after leading until 2 out, reportedly losing a shoe. A son of Flemensfirth, he should stay at least this far.
COEUR SEREIN (h122 here, 136 previously) is better at further but ran a pretty flat race even so, pushed along at halfway and in trouble by 3 out, keeping on again late. He had made into a useful handicapper when last seen.
FIRST STREET (h119 here, 129 previously) needs to settle better, weakening 3 out, though his form left him something to find in any case.
PASO DOBLE (h102 here, 129 previously) turned in a lacklustre performance, mid-field and tending to go in snatches before weakening 3 out.
TILE TAPPER (h90 here, 125 previously) ran poorly after 7 months off, weakening from prominence before 3 out.
