Expert Analysis

Reporter: Simon Rowlands

The second running of this race saw Elimay go one better than 12 months before without having to run quite to her best, a bunched finish a reflection of no great strength to the race but also of a fairly steady pace earlier on (finishing speed of 106.6%).

ELIMAY (c147 here, 155 previously) did not have to be at her very best but did have to show plenty of resolution to go one better than 12 months before, tracking the pace but hard at work before 2 out and switched before staying on for pressure to get in front late on. She would likely need softer ground if returned to a shorter trip.

PINK LEGEND (c146 here, 140 previously) ran her best race yet, unaffected by her fall the time before, coming through from mid-to-rear to have every chance from the last, keeping on.

SCARLET AND DOVE (c149 here and previously) comes out marginally best at the weights under a penalty, jumping more soundly than had been the case the time before, leading between the last 2 but just run out of it.

ZAMBELLA (c142 here, 144 previously) ran creditably, leading/close up for a long way and still bang there until fading on the run-in.

CONCERTISTA (c136 here, 153? previously) owed her position in the betting to her prowess as a hurdler more than as a chaser, her two wins in this sphere barely useful on form, and she was let down by her jumping, only briefly looking as if she might get into it.

VIENNA COURT (c129 here, 141 previously) came here in good form, if with something to find, but failed to fire.

MOUNT IDA (c118 here, 153 previously) jumped poorly and to her right throughout (something she had done before sprouting wings to win a handicap here 12 months before), always trailing.

MAID O’MALLEY (c142? here, 121 previously) was running an immense race when jumping right (as she had done at some previous obstacles) 2 out and falling, disputing the lead at the time with third and fourth though asked at the time.
