One of the “lesser” Group races at Royal Ascot, but it still nearly always takes a smart performance to win it, and this year was no exception. It was, however, a rather tactical contest, with the first 2 in those positions almost throughout and a few of those behind caught out in what was quite a fast finish, the winner’s 23.30s final 2f equal to a 107.1% finishing speed.
TRINITY COLLEGE (113+ here and previously) had shaped a bit better than the result when close up after helping to force a strong pace in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly and confirmed he is smart under a better-judged ride from the front, quickly away and not hanging about initially but steadying things mid-race and able to kick on again from over 2f out, fastest in the final 1f and with something to spare. Like a lot of Dubawis, he stays further than might otherwise be expected from his striding strides, but it remains to be seen if 12f will be within his range.
TORNADO ALERT (106 here, 107 previously) has turned in similar standards of performance in the Guineas (4th to Ruling Court), Derby (6th to Lambourn) and now here at a trip that may prove best of all for him, close up and challenging for a while around 2f out, unable to go with Trinity College thereafter.
GLITTERING LEGEND (104 here and previously) ran on from mid-field for another good effort, short of room at one point. He would not be sure to get further.

DETAIN (82 here, 113 previously) ran badly for no obvious reason bar a fairly short gap since his good run in France.
