Expert Analysis
A decent-sized field and very useful form, though it is only partly backed up by the clock, the runners quite well bunched 3 out and a race finishing speed of 107% from there.
IRISH POINT (h153 here, 149 previously) had gone to Naas instead of Cheltenham and reaped the benefit there and here, the very best novices that had run at the Festival absent from this. He did it readily, too, probably showing some improvement, tracking the pace until leading just after 2 out, ridden clear, again looking at least as effective at this 20f as at shorter.
KATEIRA (h142 here, 131+ previously) ran really well despite things not panning out perfectly for her, coming from the rear and having to be switched before going in pursuit of the winner, no impression late on. She is bred to stay even further, and to take to fences, and looks to have a pretty bright future.
HERMES ALLEN (h146 here, 149 previously) was much nearer his Newbury form without quite matching it, prominent and with every chance from the third-last until no extra late on. He fared well going from the front in the Challow and might have benefited from similar tactics here given that the finish was quite fast.
LETSBECLEARABOUTIT (h138 here, 141 previously) ran creditably and to a similar level as when fourth in the Albert Bartlett at further the time before, tracking the pace before bang there 3 out, edging ahead briefly then one paced, this barely enough of a test.
YOU WEAR IT WELL (h128 here, 142 previously) failed to repeat her Cheltenham form, leading but at a steadier pace this time and left behind after being headed 3 out. She has had a good first season over hurdles, this possibly one trip to the well too many.
SPRINGWELL BAY (h133 here, 137 previously) ran respectably and was probably a bit better than the result, reportedly hampered by the faller at the 7th (incident not in picture), then getting back into contention before losing ground again 3 out, no impression thereafter. He looks the type to take to fences at this trip and further.
CRAMBO (h133 here, 132 previously) ran about as well as could be expected despite reportedly being hampered 3 out (incident not in picture), no danger after. He is in good hands and likely to make his mark over fences.
AUTHORISED SPEED (h129+ here, 139 previously) shaped better than the result, failing to get home on his first attempt at 20f, travelling well and coming from mid-field to lead briefly 3 out, weakening between the last 2. He is not the easiest to assess, looking very good on a couple of occasions if not on others, but is probably at least useful and jumped better here than he has at times.
BLOW YOUR WAD (h125 here, 132 previously) looked to be fighting a losing battle when making a mistake 2 out, weakening thereafter but not discredited.
COOL SURVIVOR (h? here, 140 previously) would very likely have run at least as well as previously but for falling 3 out when close up and travelling comfortably, having tracked the pace before that. A point winner, he can be expected to make his mark over fences when the time comes.
DARK RAVEN (h0 here, 144 previously) was in mid-field when suffering a fatal fall at the 7th.
HALLWOOD (h0 here, 119 previously)
STONY MAN (h0 here, 117 previously)
UNCLE BERT (h0 here, 118 previously)
