Jean-Claude Rouget Stable Tour

The most prolific trainer in France has his big guns based in Deauville where they’ll do battle at the Normandy track ahead of even bigger autumn assignments.

Jean-Claude Rouget is currently leading the French trainer’s table in terms of victories and he is hoping for another successful Deauville meeting.

The Normandy racecourse became his second home a few years ago when he decided to extend his training facilities and hence save his horses from having to travel up from Pau all the time. Most of his stable stars, including last year’s Prix du Jockey Club victor Sottsass, are now trained in Deauville where they will be finetuned in view of bigger targets later in the year.

Jean-Claude Rouget also has an impressive number of juveniles waiting to make their debut and he says: “I have a good bunch of two-year-olds this year. Many of them have already won and others will make their debut soon. I am hoping for a good Deauville meeting and a nice autumn and for them to train on next year when hopefully prize-money will be going up again.”

Here, he talks to Liz Price of attheraces.com about Sottsass, who is again being aimed at the Arc, and some of the younger generation that will be hoping to follow in his hoof steps in the future.
