Verdict

Things didn't work out for FOUNTAINS BLENHEIN in the River Don but he can bounce back in these much calmer waters, not least because he's favoured at the weights. C&D winner Calvino is one of only a few of these to show an aptitude for hurdling so far and it's possible that he could take another step forward, whilst Khafre appeals most of the remainder.

Fountains Blenhein has achieved the most, winning twice over hurdles already. He was pulled up in a Grade 2 last time on soft ground, however, and for all that this is easier, the forecast going is again a concern. It's a nagging doubt for Calvino also - he's yet to race on anything slower than good to soft - but his latest piece of form over C&D has been nicely boosted courtesy of a win next time for the runner-up. He's the type for a decent handicap in the spring, but this could be the day for KHAFRE. A point winner who shaped well at Cheltenham on his hurdles debut, he should have done better last time but did hang and might have found the race coming too soon. He's been given a break and receives weight from his two main rivals.
