Stable Tour Quotes
Nicky Henderson (24 February 2026): "Jonbon could go for the Ryanair, but it depends on a lot of things. He had two quick racse and tough races and he will have had four weeks between Cheltenham. He had big battles on his hands tough battle and bounced back for the second round. He would have to do it again and last year he did Cheltenham and did Aintree before he did the Celebration Chase. Il Etait Temps was fresh that day at Sandown and Jonbon was coming at the backend of a long season. I won’t say we would have beaten him, but we were a bit flat. We are sure he is a better horse on better ground but there are a lot of horses in the melting pot for the Ryanair, and we will have to see where they go. He is still in the Champion Chase but never say no and if you take them out you haven’t got the option of changing your mind. It would be my dearest wish for him to win at the Festival after all his races and he has still finished second (three times) at the Festival and won two Shloers. He certainly deserves one and I think he has just been unlucky. We will see how he is and he could come into Aintree fresh or go to Punchestown."
Nicky Henderson (15 October 2025): "He has confirmed his place as one of National Hunt racing’s great performers and he is still only nine. He will follow down the same route as the past two years and will probably go for the Shloer Chase before the Tingle Creek and then the other usual targets. Hopefully, we have another exciting season ahead of us."
Nicky Henderson (01 April 2025): "He runs on Friday and is all in good form. He has obviously shown he is up there with the best and it was just one of things at Cheltenham and hopefully he can bounce back to his best in the Melling Chase."
Nicky Henderson (17 February 2025): "He was very good at Ascot the other day and he has now won eight Grade 1s. He is an entertaining character too and he can’t stand still for two minutes where Constitution Hill could stand still for two days. He did nothing wrong last year but for making one mistake in the Clarence House when it was run at Cheltenham, and he couldn’t go to the Champion Chase which turned out to be a bit flat as El Fabiolo was intent on putting holes in fences and it turned into a bit of a flop really. If he had been there you would have to say it wouldn’t have been the hardest race he ever had, but he wasn’t there. You have to win the Champion Chase to be a champion, and he deserves to."
Nicky Henderson (15 October 2024): "He was a flagship once again for us and the season began with victory in the Shloer and he then followed up in the Tingle Creek. The Clarence House was rescheduled for Cheltenham, and he met his only defeat of the season when going down by a neck to Elixir De Nutz and making a dreadful mistake coming down the hill. With our horses under a cloud, we didn’t go to the Festival and we waited for Aintree to step him up to two and a half miles for the first time and he came through with flying colours when beating Conflated. That sent us onto Sandown and he put up a fabulous performance to beat El Fabiolo four lengths. His programme will be much the same with the Shloer, Tingle Creek, Clarence House and the Queen Mother at Cheltenham as he deserves to win that race."
Nicky Henderson (09 April 2024): "Jonbon runs in the Melling Chase on Friday. He is in good form and it’s a great shame he couldn’t go to Cheltenham especially as the race worked out with El Fabiolo failing to get round. It opened the race up so much and you can’t help feel he would have been close to the front of it but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. He is in good shape and has won around here a couple of times and we hope he can do it again."
Nicky Henderson (22 February 2024): "He schooled this morning - AP was here - and he schooled very good. We haven’t done anything different since Cheltenham and he schooled over ten fences which is more than he will do in the Champion Chase. He won the Shloer and that proves he goes around Cheltenham. They are going to go some gallop and that suits him, he wants to be going forward, forward, forward. It looks like Edwardstone is coming back and he won well at Newbury and could make the running, but we could also if we had to. The challenge of him in a way is that he is not straightforward and the thing that cost him at Cheltenham was coming to the last. If he could get more propulsion going to the last that would have been game over, he just landed in a bit of heap and the other horse got away from him again. We will see how it goes but he could eventually go over two and a half miles. We were in tip top shape going to Ascot to take on El Fabiolo and he is the one horse that when you have got that clock wound up, a week is a long time to persuade him to relax and the spring would have bust. To him, something like him a week does matter and Jonbon is very different to everything else. "
Nicky Henderson (11 October 2023): "He has only been beaten twice in his career once over hurdles by Constitution Hill and then by El Fabiolo in the Arkle and is the most lovely horse. Apart from the odd mistake in couple of races his jumping has been pretty flawless, and he has put up some excellent displays. After his defeat at Cheltenham, he bounced back with an impressive display in the Maghull at Aintree and round off his season when beating experienced chasers in the Celebration Chase at Sandown. I was considering stepping up to two and a half miles, but Sandown probably told us to stay at two miles for now. He has developed both physically and mentally and let’s hope he has a very bright future."
Nicky Henderson (11 April 2023): "Jonbon ran a very solid race in the Arkle, and I have been very happy with him since. He has had a couple of schools at home, and I have been delighted with him."
Nicky Henderson (13 February 2023): "I would take the positives out of Saturday and not the negatives. As you saw they turned down the back straight and Aidan just got into a nice rhythm and a roll and just got into not going any quicker. I don’t think Aidan was asleep, but the horse was just relaxed in his own mind and Calico just swooped and it just caught him unaware. The next thing we were four lengths down, but I think it would have done him good and he had a real good blow like he has never done before. It wasn’t pretty to watch and pretty awful from where I was watching as it frightened the living daylights out of me but eventually, he’s quickened up and won nicely which he was entitled to do. On his previous performances he would have won easily but I wanted a lead and that is the first time he has ever jumped a fence behind. I spoke to JP, and we believe it was a wakeup call for him. He had a real good blow and he looked like he was ready to go to the show ring not the Racecourse. I think he needed it much more than we anticipated. They will go a good gallop in the Arkle, and he is sharp and he’s quick and a good jumper. He’s back and he’s fine and he looks like he wants a bit more work done. He is up there more with my other winners of the Arkle and he is good. I’m sure he will go further in time."
