Stable Tour Quotes
Paul Nicholls (18 October 2023): "His victory in the Haldon Gold Cup last season when conceding at least a stone to his four rivals didn’t surprise me. He had been working very nicely at home. He didn’t get his head in front after and was unable to win the Celebration Chase at Sandown for a third year running as he wasn’t at his best. He will return in either the Haldon Gold Cup or the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham and we could well step him up in distance."
Paul Nicholls (27 February 2023): "We all know Greaneteen and he has been a grand horse. He won his races at Sandown and has won two Haldon Gold Cups. He was a red-hot favourite at Newbury and got beat and has gone from 12-1 to 33-1 for the Queen Mother Champion Chase. He ran the same race at Newbury two years ago and he ended up just getting beaten in the Queen Mother. The ground was far too firm for him at Newbury, and he never let himself down and never jumped. He was far too keen, blew up and then stayed on strongly and he will go up to Lambourn tomorrow to do some work with Thyme White. Before we ran him in the Haldon Gold Cup, we took him away. He will have come on a ton, and it wouldn’t really surprise me if he finished third or fourth in the Champion Chase. Cheltenham suits him well and he could well run a tidy race."
Paul Nicholls (11 October 2022): "Greaneteen had a great season in 2021/22 winning the Tingle Creek and the Celebration Chase. Paul is going to go the same route with him this year starting out in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter and then to try and repeat his success in the Tingle Creek. Paul will plot a way from there and Greaneteen will hopefully end up in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham in March."
Paul Nicholls (04 March 2022): "Greaneteen is not here at the moment as he actually injured his eye. Whether he got hit with a lump of mud at Leopardstown or whether he got cast in his box he got an ulcer in his eye which he is being treated for. He is going the right way, but I think we are going to be unlikely to go to Cheltenham unless I get him back in the next few days. He will have to wait to go to Sandown on the last day of the season. It would be 50-50 to run in the Champion Chase to be honest with you. He got stuck in the ground at Leopardstown, but he was only beat in the Champion Chase by two lengths last year. From Chris Giles’s (owner) point of view all he wanted to do was win a Tingle Creek which he has done with him. He loves Sandown and if we can’t run and be competitive at Cheltenham we will go to Sandown."
Paul Nicholls (08 October 2021): "He won the Haldon Gold Cup on his reappearance last season and he will start there again. He ran well in all of his starts and was beaten only two lengths by Put The Kettle On in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham in March but surpassed all previous effort in the Celebration Chase at Sandown when beating a high-quality field that included Altior. He is a very exciting young chaser who could well improve again this season."
Paul Nicholls (02 March 2021): "He will also run in the Queen Mother Champion Chase. He ran a bit free in the Game Spirit the other day and carried a penalty. If they go fast in the Queen Mother he is the sort of horse that could run into a place - I not expecting him to win but he deserves his chance."
Paul Nicholls (27 February 2020): "He has won his last three races, and only three races over fences, having won two over hurdles last year. He won at Ascot, Musselburgh and Fakenham last week which was his third run which enabled me to qualify him for the Grand Annual. He is now rated 150. He is in the Arkle as well and I think that is a tough race. I think if we could win an Arkle we should go well off 150 in a Grand Annual. A fast run race will suit him. Although he has only run three times he jumps good and is a solid horse. I suspect he will go to the Grand Annual unless I get any hiccup with him. The ideal thing would be to go to the Grand Annual then the Grade 1 novice at Aintree. He has done really well and is a nice young improving horse that should go well in a Grand Annual. In a year's time he might be rated 160 as he is a real progressive two-mile chaser."
