Stable Tour Quotes
Willie Mullins (11 February 2026): "She was disappointing at the Dublin Racing Festival. It’s a very open Champion Hurdle and I’ll have a good word with Rich Ricci and see what he thinks about it. A lot will depend on how the mare is herself. The form she was in the other day wouldn’t cut the mustard, so she might be better off going to a Mares’ Hurdle if she was in that sort of form."
Willie Mullins (08 October 2025): "We’ll look to get her started in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle. After that, you’ll all just have to guess which race she’ll go for! I don’t want to get into the hassle we had last season with last-minute changes. She’ll tell us how she is, but she’d look very tough to beat in the Mares’ Hurdle if we pointed her that way."
Willie Mullins (06 February 2025): "The Irish Champion Hurdle was going to be a hell of a race. I watched a head-on of Lossiemouth’s fall and a flock of seagulls took off just before she approached the hurdle, did that affect her? Something took her eye because she pricked her ears two strides before it and just didn’t get up. Thankfully, she’s good after the race. How lucky was State Man not to fall or pick up an injury when four metal shoes were sticking up in the air? I’ve seen lots of horses get injured that way. We were very lucky to win the race and that both of them didn’t fall. At the moment, we’re going for the Champion Hurdle with Lossiemouth. We’ve been training her for it for two years and we’re not steering away from it. If I want to sharpen her up, I could, but if you remember in the Triumph Hurdle, she ran away with Paul coming down the hill. We’ve been training her to settle, as we’ve been running her over two-and-a-half miles. If you go back to the Hatton’s Grace, it was a pedestrian race, so at Kempton she thought she was just cantering to the first hurdle, but they had gone and she thought ‘what’s happening here?’ That’s the way I read the race. When we want to kick her up to that speed, it will be no problem, I’m fairly confident anyway. Regards jockeys, Paul has never hidden his admiration for State Man. Obviously a lot can happen between now and then, but I can’t see Paul getting off State Man."
Willie Mullins (23 January 2025): "Lossiemouth set off at about two-and-a-half or even three-mile pace and she did well to finish as close as she did. We’d been settling her all the time and she just couldn’t handle the pace because that is what we’d been teaching her. To me, the race was gone before she hit the first hurdle. She wasn’t competitive. I thought she ran well given what we’d been teaching her the last couple of years. We’ll sharpen her up at home. It will be different the next day. We haven’t decided on her next engagement, she’s in at Cheltenham and Leopardstown and we’ll have a war council in the next 24 hours and decide."
Willie Mullins (28 November 2024): "I’m very happy with her. She’ll start off this weekend in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle and then the International Hurdle at Cheltenham might be a good option for her rather than going to Leopardstown at Christmas. We aren’t thinking about the Mares’ Hurdle for her. The plan for the last two years was to go to the Mares’ Hurdle last season and the Champion Hurdle this season. We’ll keep her apart from State Man until Cheltenham and let them clash there all being well with both. Letting them meet beforehand would take all the fun out of it!"
Willie Mullins (17 April 2024): "I was absolutely delighted with her at Cheltenham, and it looks like she’s coming on-song in her bid for the Champion Hurdle next year. She has an entry in the Punchestown Champion Hurdle, but the Coolmore N.H. Sires Bolshoi Ballet Irish EBF Mares Champion Hurdle is her target. When you look at her on the track you think she’s a little grey mare, but when you stand into her you get a fright! She’s more like 16-2. She’s very well proportioned."
Willie Mullins (25 October 2023): "I’d say she’ll more than likely be one for the Mares’ Hurdle and we’ll be working backwards from that. I haven’t decided where to start her yet. She had a busy season last season, so I don’t think I’ll rush her back to get started this season."
Willie Mullins (14 February 2023): "I think she is still the one to beat in the juvenile division, given her run at the Dublin Racing Festival. She was just very unlucky there."
Willie Mullins (27 October 2022): "She came from France and is a nice filly. She was impressive at Auteuil and that experience will stand to her in juvenile hurdles. We’re looking forward to getting her started over here."
