Joe Tizzard may have been slightly down on winners numerically in the 2025/26 jumps seasons but his £1,380,192 prize money swept him to a new personal best and there was ample big-race glory for the Milborne Port team.
Success story of his season has to go to Alexei, who won the Lavazza Handicap at Ascot, the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham and the Grade 2 Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton. He covered himself in further glory when fourth to Lossiemouth in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham and then third to Brighterdaysahead ahead in the Aintree Hurdle.
Alexei will be testing his capabilities in top hurdle company again with the Fighting Fifth a probable first stopping off point and Kripticjim, who landed a Grade 2 at Cheltenham on Trials Day in January, will be flexing his muscles in the novice chase division where he could well take high order.
The likes of JPR One, winner of the Scottish Champion Chase, and beaten a head in the Grade 1 Celebration Chase at Sandown and Berkshire National hero Rock My Way are back on duty again with some very likeable novices waiting in the wings at the Dorset stable.
Joe said: “I’m hoping we have a lovely bunch of horses again and once we get some rain, we will be busy. Let’s hope we are in for some exciting times again.”
Tizzard kindly talked to Tony Elves of attheraces.com as his gets ready for his season to really go ahead.
