Expert Analysis
A steadily-run race but an impressive debut win over fences by last season’s smart novice hurdler The Jukebox Man, who achieved a similar level of form immediately here, helped to a degree by the under-performance of 3 of his 5 rivals. His final 4f of 53.87s on good to soft going equates to a 111.4% finishing speed.
THE JUKEBOX MAN (c148+ here, unraced chases previously) immediately ran to a similar level as he had when a smart novice hurdler last season and looks like being one of the best British prospects in this division, few blemishes on this debut success. He made most and jumped soundly on the whole bar a mistake at the 8th, quickening 4 out then tending to edge left, but clear at the last and merely kept up to his work as the second closed. His best efforts over hurdles were at around 24f, but while showing relative speed, and this sort of trip promises to be every bit as suitable.
MASACCIO (c146 here, 136 previously) ran his best race yet by some way, tracking the pace and asked for an effort when making a mistake 3 out, running on well on the flat and closest at the finish. He ran like a non-stayer on his sole start at 24f but seemed to need all of this trip under these circumstances.
JOHNNYWHO (c137 here and previously) ran creditably and should win a race or 2 over fences without likely being quite up to this level, a shade free early, tracking the pace but asked for an effort when awkward 3 out and outpaced thereafter. He stays 25f.
CAPTAIN TEAGUE (c128+ here, ? previously) was effectively unraced over fences having walked over last time and went as if needing it, mostly in second but finding little from 2 out and slow at the last (jumped OK bar mistake 5th otherwise).
BOOMBAWN (c130 here, 142 previously) was held up and could never get into it, penalised in this stronger company.
BUGISE SEAGULL (c0 here, 135 previously)
