Expert Analysis

Reporter: Simon Rowlands

A race that usually falls to one showing useful form at least by novice standards, and that is probably the case again here despite few of the runners boasting form much out of the ordinary beforehand. It was a pretty well-run race on ground that was just on the easy side of good judged on times (quicker side of good over fences).

KERRYHILL (h144 here, 126 previously) found a load of improvement on what was just his third start in hurdles, looking good value for it too and one of the best staying novice prospects trained in Britain. He was soon settled into mid-field, travelling well, moved up stylishly 3 out and led soon after that flight, taking a short while to shrug off the eventual second but staying on strongly for pressure on the run-in.

WELCOM TO CARTRIES (h138 here and previously) ran at least as well as previously and should win more races at this trip or returned to around 20f, comfortably tracking the pace until challenging 3 out, soon passed by the winner but hanging onto his coat-tails until no extra on the run-in.

THE NEWEST ONE (h134 here, 128 previously) improved a bit on previous form and should have a future back in staying handicaps, close up but under pressure before 3 out, rallying fairly well late on without having a chance with the first 2.

DESTROYTHEEVIDENCE (h133 here and previously) ran creditably, if beaten a lot further by Kerryhill than he had been by Shanagh Bob the time before. He improved from mid-field to have every chance going to 3 out then was one paced.

RANGE (h132 here, 125 previously) has improved steadily and probably stayed despite leading until 3 out, outpaced then plugging on. He could be an interesting type for handicaps with more progress not out of the question.

DRIPSEY MOON (h120 here, 129 previously) only briefly looked like he might come through from the rear, not paying much of a compliment to Loughglynn’s form from Limerick over Christmas.
