Expert Analysis
A race run in rain and gloom, with the ground very much back to “heavy” at this stage near the end of a rain-affected Festival. It took a very useful performance from Limerick Lace to win it, but things might have been different had the runner-up got in a challenge a bit sooner, added to which that one comes out best at the weights having been penalised in this. The pace was seemingly OK for the conditions (62.15s final 4f, for 104.7% finishing speed), but the winner and third might have been at a positional advantage in being closer to it than some others.
LIMERICK LACE (c147 here, 146 previously) might not have had to improve by much, if at all, to take this, sensibly ridden forwardly with no doubts about her stamina, in third or fourth much of the way before leading travelling comfortably approaching the second-last, 2 to 3 lengths clear soon after and staying on well despite flashing her tail to hang on as the second came at her.
DINOBLUE (c151+ here, 158 previously) was not quite at her best but seemed to get the trip in testing conditions and might have managed to force her head in front ridden with similar enterprise to the winner, improving from the rear 3 out but 2 to 3 lengths down after the next and never quite getting closer than the three quarters of a length by which she was beaten.
MARSH WREN (c141 here, 136 previously) seemed to run very well, possibly helped by being in the firing line for a long way, headed again after 3 out but not dropping away until the run-in.
ALLEGORIE DE VASSY (c144 here, 151 previously) underperformed slightly, not always fluent but improving from the rear 3 out then making little further impression up the inner.
INSTIT(c131 here, 134 previously) ran creditably on balance, leading/disputing the lead a long way (jumped right at a couple) but beaten after 3 out.
RIVIERE D’ETEL (c126 here, 149 previously) jumped right as usual and found little at the business end.
HARMONYA MAKER (c126 here, 142 previously) made a few errors mid-race and turned in one of her poorer efforts.
KESTREL VALLEY (c109 here, 127 previously)
PINK LEGEND (c108 here, 142? previously)
