Expert Analysis
Precise won the battle of the Guineas winners here as her stablemate, the English 1000 Guineas heroine, True Love could only manage third. Owen Burrows’ Touleen ended up splitting the pair and might have gone very close with a clear run. Precise may have found more if required, although it was rather workmanlike from her.
PRECISE didn’t enjoy a smooth run of things herself. She missed the break, resulting in Ryan Moore being a bit further back than he had planned. He made a mid-race move to push forward on the outside, with the result that she was caught wide on the home turn, but he clearly didn’t want to ride her for speed. She hit the front two furlongs out and kept going even though they were all starting to slow late on and her final furlong of 12.80 seconds was enough (partly due to the trouble behind her).
TOULEEN clearly enjoyed this stiff mile and with a clear run she would have gone very close. She travelled well into the straight, but with Wayne Lordan holding his racing line on True Love and Moon Target edging off the rail and then back towards it again (possibly encouraged that way), she had the door closed twice before switching and coming home best of all. It’s not certain looking at her pedigree, but there is hope and I think she could be even better over ten furlongs.
TRUE LOVE hasn’t quite been able to build on her Guineas win, both in the Irish equivalent and here. This true test over a stiff mile was probably never going to play to her strengths, so perhaps there is more credit in this effort than seems apparent at first glance.
MOON TARGET ran a cracker on her first start since October. She was quite keen, while also racing closer to the strong pace than the three that finished ahead of her. While she caused some interference, she kept going all the way to the line, despite that misuse of energy.
BALANTINA had her stamina stretched here and even though she ran well for a long way, she faded inside the final furlong.
SUKANYA suffered a little because of the traffic problems up the straight too. While not to the same extent as Touleen, she would have finished a little closer with a clear passage.
TIMEFORSHOWCASING was always prominent and briefly led approaching the two-furlong pole but faded soon after as the chasing pack took over.
BLACK CAVIAR GOLD never threatened and weakened in the final two furlongs.
ROSE GHAIYYATH led them into the straight but had set a strong pace and got very tired.
