Stable Tour Quotes
Paul Nicholls (08 April 2026): "Captain Teague had some very good form a couple of year back and he won the Challow Hurdle. He looked a champion then and lost a way a little but if he replicates a bit of old form he could go pretty well in the two and a half mile handicap hurdle on Friday."
Paul Nicholls (13 October 2025): "Most unfortunately, he finished lame after he finished fourth to The Jukebox Man in a very competitive Grade 2 at Newbury. He is fine now but I wanted to give him a full 12 months off, and I checked with the BHA that he didn’t lose his novice chase status for his walkover at Exeter. If all remains well with him, he’ll be a major asset in our staying novice chase division."
Paul Nicholls (21 October 2024): "Captain Teague had a good year last year and won the Persian War first time out and then, frustratingly, got beaten at Cheltenham and then won the Challow Hurdle. He had won a Grade 1, but we could quite get him right after that and he disappointed at the Festival. It was frustrating but feel we could never get him quite right after the Challow. He had a great summer and his work is really great. I can’t wait to see him over fences. I am not sure where he will start and whether it will be over two and a half miles or three, but I can wait to see him as a chaser and I think he is going to be a pretty awesome novice chaser."
Paul Nicholls (26 February 2024): "He is obviously a smart horse, and he won his bumper at Plumpton and went to Cheltenham and finished third in the Champion bumper. On his debut over hurdles, he won the Persian War at Chepstow, ran well at Cheltenham when finishing second and learnt a lot about him and he didn’t jump so well that day. He went to the Grade 1 Challow at Newbury over Christmas, and he stayed on dourly and won very nicely. He is going to Kempton on Tuesday to work with Bravemansgame, it won’t be anything flashy, just for a day out. He hasn’t run since December, and he is in the Baring Bingham over two miles five and also in the Albert Bartlett which we won last year with Stay Away Fay. My thinking is like normal Cheltenham and not too testing he will run in the Albert Bartlett, but we are going to leave that decision until late. I am convinced that the way he stays on in his race that the trip of the Albert Bartlett will suit him well. There is loads of stamina in his pedigree and he is very much on par with Stay Away Fay and has a bit more boot than that horse. He is a lovely horse and is going to make an awesome chaser next season. "
Paul Nicholls (18 October 2023): "He was our leading bumper horse last season and is a very exciting prospect for novice hurdles. The form of his Plumpton bumper worked out well and we put him away for Cheltenham and he ran the race of his life to finish third. Hopefully, he can be a top-notch novice hurdler this season and he made a very bright start to his hurdling career in the Persian War at Chepstow on Friday. His long-term aim would be along the lines of the Challow Hurdle at Newbury."
Paul Nicholls (27 February 2023): "He is quite a nice horse, and he is going to have an entry in the Champion Bumper. We don’t have many run in the bumper and the last one I think was Al Ferof who finished second to Cue Card. He is a nice horse by Doyen, and he’s had two runs and won a point-to-point in Ireland last year very impressively and we took him to Plumpton before Christmas for a National Hunt Flat race, and he hosed in. I’m not going to say he is going to win the Champion Bumper or anything like that, but we are running out of options where to run him before he goes hurdling next year. The ground is going to be safe that early part of the week and will probably be good to soft so we will let him take his chance in the bumper. If he finished fifth or sixth, I would be delighted with him, and he will be a lovely horse to go novice hurdling with next season. He will be one of our better horses next year."
Paul Nicholls (11 October 2022): "We were very lucky, and our owners support us with some lovely point-to-point horses and he is a lovely Doyen horse who won for Colin Bowe. He has shown us some lovely signs at home, and he will most definitely start in a bumper somewhere. He is only four-years-old so there is no rush with him and he could stay in bumpers."
